Abstract

Manual exchange systems; two-way repeating systems.-Four-wire transmission circuits each with a pair of echo suppressor units are coupled in tandem by cord-circuits so that all the echo suppressors except one pair are disabled. The cord-circuits have four plugs for connecting the line and network jacks, the usual balancing networks at the junction being unnecessary. In one arrangement (Fig. 2), relays X, Y associated with the coupled transmission circuits are energized over sleeve circuits and disable the shunting echo suppressors A-B, C-B. In another arrangement, Fig. 3, both the echo suppressors of each transmission are controlled by a pair of relays one of which is polarized. If the cord Y is connected first to the circuit X, control relays F1, G1 both energize without effect on relay H1, but relay B1 also operates, so that when connection is made to the circuit Z, relay F2 energizes and relay G2 being polarized does not, whereby relay H2 operates and disables the echo suppressors Y-Z, Z-Y. This arrangement is particularly useful since an ordinary two-wire line may be included in the connection.
