Abstract
An electrically powered device for the transmission, over a short distance, of a pre recorded message using the FM frequency and the Travel Programme / Travel Announcement (TP/TA) flags recognized by RDF radios, such as in an emergency situation to alert a driver of an approaching emergency service vehicle prior to that vehicle being impeded in some way.
Description
Short Range FM RDS Radio Transmitter This invention relates to a device for the transmission, over a short distance, of a pre recorded message using the FM frequency and the Travel Programme / Travel Announcement (TP/TA) flags recognised by RDF radios Time is vital during any emergency situation and despite the use of flashing blue lights, sirens and on occasion air horns, it is not possible to alert a driver to the approach of an emergency service vehicle prior to that vehicle being impeded in some way. Equally junctions and locations of limited visibility also hamper the warning given by the approaching vehicle There have been cases, even if the driver has seen the approaching vehicle, where the driver in question has exhibited a panicked reaction, requiring the emergency vehicle to slow in order to deal with the actions of the motorists The Highway Code gives precise information on dealing with the approach of an emergency service vehicle however most motorists are unable to recall the exact advice given in normal clrcwnstances without the additional stress of having to execute an unexpected manoeuvre The Short Range FM RDS Radio Transmitter will provide a pre recorded message advising the motorist of the approaching emergency vehicle and the nature of how to react, in line with the Highway Code, to allow it to pass in as unhindered a manner as possible. The Short Range FM RDS Radio Transmitter will transmit on a frequency that is detected by car radios however the Short Range FM RDS Radio Transmitter will not provide a means for the member of the emergency service driving or using the vehicle to communicate directly with other road users.
Preferably the electrical power for the unit can be supplied by a number of sources but compatible with a twelve volt power supply The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings m which Figure one shows the single solid state' nature of the device And Figure two shows the proposed lay out of a simple circuit so that it can function In Figure one the Short Range FM RDS Radio Transmitter is marked A' and features two connecting sockets I) is for the power supply and 2) is connection to the aerial for transmitting on an FM frequency In Figure two the Short Range FM RDS Radio Transmitter is again marked A' and as connected to 1) a simple push switch and 2) an LED to indicate power is flowing Power 3)is from a battery in this case and 4) an aerial. 2.
Claims (3)
- Claims 1. A short range radio transmitter on the FM frequency which is permanently set onto the TP / TA flag used by RDF radio receivers.
- 2. A short range FM radio transmitter, on the FM frequency, that only transmits pre recorded messages.
- 3. A short range FM radio transmitter, on the FM frequency according to either of the above claims, which can be fitted to a vehicle.4 A short range FM radio iransmitter, on the FM frequency accordmg to either of the above claims, which can be powered from other sources of electrical power.
