Abstract
An adaptive illumination device uses at least one lighting panel bearing an array of light emitters, such as an LED array, and control means for selectively energising predetermined groups of light emitters within the array in response to control signals so as to illuminate a predetermined part of a scene. The device may also use more than one panel with hinges between them and a gear mechanism to alter the total field of view. The apparatus find use in surveillance, to illuminate parts of a scene to be viewed by CCTV. The LED array may use visible or infra-red illumination.
