Abstract

The mobile pedestrian crossing is formed from a number of hinged sections of material which can be rolled up for storage or rolled out when deployed. The crossing preferably acts as a speed hump and may be provided with high visibility illuminated signs powered by rechargeable batteries. Sections of the crossing may be added or removed to alter the length of the crossing.

Description

Pedestilan Crossing: Desalption: This invention relates to a mobile pedestrian crossing unit that can be rapidly deployed / removed.
Permanent pedestrian crossings are predominantiy in place in areas of heavy pedestrian traffic.
However, there are areas in which infrequent high volumes of pedestrian traffic occurs e.g. Schools, Concerts, Markets, shows etc. Commercial interest: Permanent pedestrian crossings are very expensive (recently documented at 114,000) and often not required on a permanent basis.
To overcome this issue, this invention proposes a mobile pedestrian crossing that can be rapidly deployed f removed to cope with the high volumes of pedestrian activity and removed when not required. The unit will also reduce traffic speed and improve road safety.
The mobile unit will also be raised as to act as a speed hump which will reduce traffic speed in the immediate area.
The unit will be made of light but durable material which can be rapidly deployed (unrolled) or removed (rolled up).
The unit will be made in removable sections that can be removed/added in order to adjust to the required length.
In addition to the unit, mobile (rechargeable battery operated) high visibility illuminated sign/s would alert motorists that a temporary crossing was in operation.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Diagram A shows the unit and mobile sign in place and example usage.
Diagram B shows the unit on the roll and details the hinged sections which allow the unit to be rolled/stored.
Diagram C details an example of a before and after scenario showing the unit and signs road safety benefits.
