Abstract
A memory device 5 is incorporated into a conventional CD or DVD case to provide a digital file to backup the contents of the CD or DVD optical disc. This enables users to download the contents of the disc to their computer or hard drive via a mini USB connection port 1 or similar provided in the case spine 2 or edge of the case 8. The file is preferably lockable by using the barcode for a password so that users may not accidentally remove the file. Even if the disc is damaged, the user may still have a copy of the contents on their hard drive. Manufacturers may also include the art work on the front cover of the case as part of the content stored in the memory device so that users can identify the file by this art work.
Description
Description
The basic functions of this invention is to create a digital file to back up a conventional Compact Disc, be it a CD for Music, a DVD for Movies, or a CD for Software and Games.
With conventional Discs we all know how easily they can be damaged / scratched, and also as more and more people are starting to upload their music to their computers, although some people seem to be able to do this quite easily, most people do not understand how this works.
However as more and more people are getting nd of the old Video Recorders and replacing them with DVD recorders, Media Centres and Hard Drives to record their programmes, with my invention they will be able to upload their favourite Movies, Music and Games to these storage devices and not worry about the constant abuse been applied to the vulnerable Disc, as once the file has been uploaded to the storage device it maybe be transferred to a smaller more portable hard drive which they may wish to take with them on holiday or to a friend's house to watch something there, or even simply to take to another room in the house and maybe watch a movie in bed With the adaption of my invention, people that purchase Discs with this Invention incorporated into a general CD/DVD case, they will be able to download the contents of the disc to their Computer or Hard Drive via a mini USB connection or similar.
The file should be non removable or lockable maybe by using the barcode for a password, for the safety of unsure future users, so they may not accidentally remove the file. When a connection is made with the invention via a mini USB plug or similar, the user will be notified of its connection via a popup screen asking if the user would like to copy or simply use the file and its contents. It may also be worth noting that from this procedure the manufacturers may include th rP wrsrt, covers br people to associate the file to the front cover, like the feature used by popular MP3 players.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings of which-Figure 1 shows a 3D view of the front and front spine of the CD case with the (JSB or similar connection visible.
Figure 2 shows a view of the spine of the CD case with its connection port.
Figure 3 shows the underside of the CD case where the invention is located Figure 4 shows a 3D image of the larger DVD case with the connection moved to the upper/lower edge of the case Figure 5 shows a view from inside the case to show where the invention could be placed In Figure 1, A conventional CD case used by manufacturers of CD's, like music, Software, Games or even blank CD's, with number 4 beingthe lid to the case, 3 being the thumb press used to aid in the opening of the case lid, also showing number 2 as the spine of the CD case, where it would normally have the title of the CD for easy reference, or number 8 being the side edge used for the larger DVD case's as these use a different case, and number 1 being the connection port for the memory device number 5 the shaded area, inside the case, so it may be plugged into an external device for easy copying of file and contents, that are the same as the CD S By having the memory device S built into the case around the CD storage plate number 6 and not to interfere with the mounting support number 9 used to bring the CD to level wrth the rest of the case and to allow the Disc to be raised by pressing the release number 7, the owner will be able to transfer the file with ease, by simply connecting the memory device 5, and if ever the owner was to damage the vulnerable Disc they would still have a hard copy on the their external drive, where if provided they will be able to view the file and contents by recognition of the art work supplied with Disc by the manufacturer.
Figure 2, shows an alternative view of the Spine 2 of the CD case and 1 being the connection port being either a mini USB or similar, so it may be plugged into an external device for easy copying of file and contents.
Figure 3, shows the underside view of storage plate 6 with the release button number 7, where the memory device 5 is located underneath thumb press 3, and not to interfere with the recess of the mounting support 9, and the port connection 1 out of the spine 2 of CD case Figure 4, shows a conventional DVD case with 4 the lid, 2 the spine with DVD or Game title as these cases are different to the CD case connection port 1 has been moved to edge of DVD case number 8.
Figure 5, shows a conventional DVD case open and the lid 4 on opposite side to the storage plate 6, Disc release button 7, and the mounting support 9, which should not interfere with memory device 5, as there will be more information on DVD/Game Disc more space maybe needed for Memory Device S although it will still have the same connection via connection port 1
Claims (3)
- Claims A memory device incorporated into a CD Case to store a file and contents the same as the Disc, built around the CD storage area, with a facilrtyto plug a cable into the device from one of the outer edges of the CD case, so that the file and contents can be copied and stored onto a separate hard drive for ease of use at any given time, without the need to open the case and remove the CD.
- 2 A memory device according to claim 1, in which a memory device is built into a CD case, around the CD storage area with a connection port out of the side of the case for easy plug and connection without the need to open case or remove CD
- 3. A memory device according to claim 1, 2 but to be larger in size for the bigger DVD capacity, as a larger memory device may be used for the larger files used on a DVD or Games
