Abstract

A bedcover comprises a quilted top layer 1, 2 and 3 and a fabric bottom layer 4, the periphery of the top and bottom layers are joined together around the edges. The quilted top layer is preferably made from three layers of material that are stitched together, an outer layer 1 of polycotton fabric, and inner layer 3 of lightweight synthetic/cotton fabric with a layer of wadding 2 in between. The fabric bottom layer 4 is preferably made from a polycotton fabric. An additional layer of fabric 5 may be placed between the quilted layer and the fabric bottom layer for additional warmth.

Description

L 2453579 All-in-one Bedcover
Background
This invention relates to all-in-one bedding.
In running a small hotel, I am frequently having to change bed-linen daily and often washing and ironing several duvet covers in a day. This is very time-consuming. The duvet covers then have to be put back on the duvet, which is difficult and time-consuming. Sending duvet coves to the laundry is expensive and, with a quick turnaround there is always the problem of not having them back in time and the fastenings are often damaged in the laundry's machinery.
The duvets themselves have to be sent to the laundry, which is expensive, because they do not fit into a domestic washing machine. Some larger machines claim to take a double duvet, but the filling will often bunch and the duvet will be ruined, and even if it is successful, the problem of drying a duvet makes this impractical.
Consequently, most small hotels/guest houses/care homes, etc. probably do not have duvets cleaned as often as they would like for good standards of hygiene.
In a domestic situation, when I had a small child I had to take the duvet to the launderette if there was an accident/drink spill/sickness in the night, and I know many other parents who had the same problem.
The problem of replacing quilt covers must be worse for people who are incapacitated in some way, through illness or disability.
Statement of Invention
To overcome this, the all-in-one bedcover, which I have called the Duvette, is a quilt stitched inside a cover, the whole thing stitched in such a way as to fit into a domestic washing machine and tumble drier, while maintaining warmth and comfort in use and not requiring any fastenings.
Advantages The whole of the bedcover is washed after each use, which is more hygienic when there is a high turnover of bed use by different people (i.e. guest house/hotel), or high likelihood of accidents (elderly care home, small children, etc.) The quilt is stitched inside in such a way as to prevent bunching, which is a problem with the wadding in duvets that will fit into a domestic washing machine.
The quilt is stitched in such a way as to compress the filling, so that the whole thing is more manageable, easier to carry and store.
There is no ironing required, which makes the Duvette more environmentally friendly.
It is easier to store than separate duvets and covers and requires less room, which is better for small hotels.
There are not fastening to become damaged, and this makes it easier to make the bed.
Bed-making is much easier and can be done in half the time.
Costs are kept down because duvets do not have to be sent to the laundry or taken to the launderette.
The Duvette is easy to produce, no buttons or fastenings, and is comfortable to sleep under. For extra weight and comfort in winter, it can have an additional layer of lightweight fabric stitched inside.
Drawings Figures 1 and 2 These show a cross section of the Duvette.
1. Top layer/ polycotton fabric.
2. Layer of wadding.
3. Lightweight synthetic/cotton fabric 4. Bottom layer polycotton fabric.
Layers 1,2 and 3 are stitched together to form a quilt.
Figure 2 (5)shows the same design with an additional layer of lightweight warm fabric which can be added for winter weight and warmth.
Figure 3.
This shows a top view of the Duvette. The whole of the top is quilted and there is stitching around the edge (6) to attach a layer of fabric to the underside.
Figure 4.
This shows a view of the underside of the Duvette, which is a sheet of fabric stitched only around the edges (6) to attach it to the quilt on the top.

Claims (2)

  1. Claims 1. A bedcover with a quilt stitched inside, the quilt stitched so that it can be laundered in a domestic washing machine and has no separate parts or fastenings.
  2. 2. A bedcover according to claim I with an additional layer of fabric stitched inside to provide extra warmth.
