Abstract

A back support 1 which fits over an existing chair which has no lower back support of its own comprises a pocket 5 which fits over the back of the chair and a back support which may be a strong textile, with an optional detachable cushion 6. An optional side pocket with opening 4 can accommodate personal items.

Description

Portable back support The back support relates to supporting general or specific areas of the users back whilst sitting in a chair without enough back support Some chairs have a small section of support which supports only the upper back area which can contribute to back pain or discomfort.
To overcome this, the back support enables the user to sit in a chair giving support for the entire area of their back and also provide additional support for specific areas with the detacheable cushion.
The back support is lightweight, compact and portable.The top pocket slips easily and quickly over the back of a chair and is held in place simply by sitting on the portion which drapes onto the chair seat.
This action allows the back support to become taught as it conforms to the shape of the users back Very often the support used in this way is sufficient for the user. If additional support is required the detacheable cushion can be used by placeing it wherever the additional support is needed. The side pocket can hold a note book or other personal items when the user is seated and also serves as a pocket in which the back support can be stored.
An example of the back support will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: * figure 1 shows the front of the back support, lying flat, indicating the placement of the side pocket.
* figure 2 shows the back of the back support, lying flat, indicating the top pocket which slips over the back of a chair * figure 3 shows the back support in use and possible placement of the detacheable cushion.
* figure 4 shows the cushion from both a plan view and side view The back support, made of a strong, suitable textile fits securely to a chair back by slipping pocket 5, as shown in figure 2, over the back of the users chair. The user sits on seat area 2 fig.3 which allows the back area 1 fig.3 to become taught and conform to the users own back thus creating support. The detacheable cushion, 6 fig.3, can be secured to back area, 1 fig.3, which gives additional support to the user. The side pocket, 3 fig. 3, can hold personal items, ie., a notebook, by slipping it in opening 4 fig.3. Once the user is finished with the back support pocket 5 fig 2 slips off the chair and folds easily into the side pocket 3 fig 3 along with the detacheable cushion, 6 fig 3.

Claims (2)

  1. Claim: 1 A back support has a pocket that fits over the back of a chair with a detacheable cushion and makes sitting comfortably possible in a chair with out back support of its own.
  2. 2 A back support as in claim 1 * in which the entire support folds easily and fits in the attached side pocket.
