Abstract

A plasterboard hole liner for ceiling down lights, maintains the strength and integrity of material into which the hole is formed, preventing damage to soft gypsum plasterboard ceilings. The hole liner may be made of metal and comprise a flange. It can be fixed either with tabs which fold out over and grip the plasterboard, or pins. The hole liner maintains pressure against the retaining springs of the downlight, for repetitive insertion and removal for decorating and for maintenance.

DESCRIPTION
A plasterboard hole liner for ceiling downlights This invention is a device for protecting the edges of a hole created in gypsum plasterboard which is very soft and vulnerable to crumbling as the downlight is inserted and removed for maintenance and/or decorating.
The construction of a conventional ceiling downlighter is held tightly in position with 2 springs. The 2 springs rely on the resistance provided by the plasterboard around the vertical edge of the hole to create the tension on the top surface of the plasterboard.
The purpose of this invention is to protect the vertical edge of the hole, keeping it the same size and shape. The metal liner, shown in figure 1, is inserted into the hole & held in place by folding the tabs over onto the surface of the plasterboard. The downlight can then be inserted and removed without damaging the edge of the hole and the decorating.
In figure 1, the ceiling downlight hole liner comprises of one piece incorporating a ring to prevent it from passing through the hole, a circular spacer to line the hole and tags which are then folded out and over the top of the plasterboard as shown in figure 2.

Claims (5)

1. A plasterboard hole liner for ceiling downlights to maintain the material integrity required to support ceiling downlighters and allow them to be inserted and removed without damage to the plasterboard.
2. A plasterboard hole liner according to claim 1, which can be used as a repair to an existing hole which is damaged to create the formwork to repair the plasterboard through re-decoration.
3. A plasterboard hole liner according to claim 1 which is held in place with pins.
4. A plasterboard hole liner according to claim I with tags which are folded out & over the top & bottom of the plasterboard.
5. A plasterboard hole liner according to claim I where the tags do not offer complete protection around the edge of the hole, but only offering minimum contact with the springs on the side of the ceiling downlight.
