Abstract

The Liner Tie is designed for use with flexible containment systems within the pharmaceutical industry. It is a sealing tool used to fix a section of liner into a state of compression in preparation to cut. Its function is to prevent exposure to product or breach of containment while cutting and after the liner is cut. The Liner Tie is essentially a tensioning tie similar to a cable tie, given the ability to split into two separate ties by means of a sharpened edge 2 that centrally divides a locking eyelet 3. The design of the tie incorporates tensioning lugs 8 that allow the attachment of a tensioning tool. A sealing rim 6 secures the position of the tie on the flexible containment liner. A locating groove on the eyelet section and the position of the tensioning lugs ensure the correct position of a blade used to cut through the tie and the liner.

Description

CSPUK LTD Liner Tie
Description
Context The CSPUK LTD Liner Tie is designed for use with flexible containment systems within the pharmaceutical industry. It is a sealing tool used to fix a section of liner into a state of compression in preparation to cut. Its function is to prevent exposure to product and breach of containment, while cutting and after the liner is cut. The design of the CSPUK LTD Liner Tie provides an alternative means for secureing flexible containment liner in a state of compression; alternative to existing methods of taping and crimping.
The CSPUK LTD Liner Tie is essentially a tensioning tie given the ability to split into two separate ties by means of a sharpened edge that centrally divides a locking eyelet. The design of the tie incorporates tensioning lugs that allow the attachment of a tensioning tool. A sealing rim secures the position of the tie on the flexible containment liner. A locating groove on eyelet section and the position of the tensioning lugs ensure the correct position of a blade used to cut through the tie and the liner.
The Nylon Liner Tie consists of 7 features 1. Band section; tear-able along a thin central film running its length.
2. Thin Tare-able Nylon Film 3. Locking eyelet section divided centrally by a chamfered tearing edge 4. Chamfered Tearing Edge 5. Tensioning Lugs 6. Sealing Rims 7. Blade Locating Groove
Drawings Introduction
Drawing 1: Details the tie with numbered features in reference to the detailed
description of the design and its operation.
Drawing 2: Details the design identifying all features by name and detailing the technology and material.
Drawing 3: General dimensions Detail description with numbered references to drawing I The locking eyelet section (3) has 2 elastically deformable saw tooth lock pieces and stoppers. The saw tooth lock pieces oppose a slot in which the band section is inserted from two smooth flat ends (8) before engaging with a saw tooth belt section (9) of the band in a ratchet like action, constraining the direction of movement of the band to one direction through the eyelet.
The stoppers suppress deformable movement of the saw tooth lock piece when a force in a pull-out direction is applied to the band section. When a force is applied to the saw tooth lock piece through the band, excessive deformation of the saw tooth lock piece is suppressed by the stopper, thereby preventing the saw tooth lock piece from being disengaged.
As the band (1) is pulled through the locking section (3) it is torn into two parts. It is torn evenly by the chamfered tearing edge (4) tearing along a thin central film (2).
The radial motion of the band created while tensioning the band forms sealing rims from the raised edges (6) on the band portion. When in tension around the liner the rims cause the liner material to bellow in the space between the rims securing the bands position on the liner.
Further tension is applied to the band by applying tensioning force in opposite directions using tensioning tools attached to the tie through tensioning lugs (5) on both the band (1) and lock (3) sections of the tie.
The design of the tie incorporates a groove (7) on the locking eyelet section. The groove is centrally located its function being to precisely locate a pipe cutter blade used to cut through the eyelet section and the liner contained by the taut tie.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims * A Band section tear-able along a thin central film running its length is used to secure the liner in a state of compression, the thin Tare-able Nylon Film ensures that when in position on the liner the two parts of the spilt band are situated as close as possible next to each other on the liner.
    * A Locking eyelet section divided centrally by a chamfered tearing edge is used both to prevent the band section to disengage from the lock section but the chamfered edge acts as a blade as the band section is pulled through and tears the band into two along its length.
    * Tensioning Lugs provide a means to further tighten the tie around the liner.
    * Sealing Rims; the radial motion of the tie when tensioning the tie causes raised edges on the band section to form a radial rim around the liner as the tie is pulled tighter the rim reduces in diameter and the space between the rims causes the liner made of flexible material e.g. Polyurethane, to bellow between the rims, subsequently the ties are fixed into place on the liner * A Blade Locating Groove and position of the Tensioning Lugs precisely locate a blade used by an operator to cut the tie and the liner.
