Abstract
A bag 1 provided with a low tac adhesive 14 on the outside open edge enabling the bag to be adhered to a wall or side of a unit, typically by a hospital bed. The bag may be made of plastic or paper. The adhesive strip 14 may be double-sided tape, preferably with a high tac side attached to the bag and a low tac side on the working surface. The adhesive strip 14 may also be a mechanically sprayed strip. The adhesive strip 14 can either be provided with a release strip before use, to protect the adhesive, or bags 1 can be stacked with the adhesive holding one bag 1 to the next bag 1 in the strip. The stack of bags may be mounted on a sheet of card. The bags 1 may be of the type having gussets along the parallel closed sides 6 and there may be printing on the bag 1 on the side opposite the adhesive strip 14.
Description
Waste Disosal Bass The present invention relates to bags for holding rubbish and the like.
Waste, including household waste and hospital waste, is typically thrown into a bin. However, there is not always sufficient space for a bin, for example by a bed side, particularly though in a hospital. Furthermore, all types of rubbish may get thrown into a bin, but due to efforts to recycle, rubbish generally has to be sorted for disposal. l0
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved container for rubbish.
According to the invention there is provided a bag having a strip of releasable low tac adhesive on the outside of one side at its open edge.
Typically the bag will be of plastics material, although the bag could also be of paper or other fibrous materials.
Preferably the adhesive is in the form of double sided tape, adhered to the bag.
Typically the adhesive on the side attached to the bag will be high tac, with the working surface being low tac. Alternatively the adhesive may be a mechanically sprayed strip.
In some embodiments the releasable low tac adhesive will be provided with a release peel off strip to protect the adhesive before use. Alternatively the adhesive strip on one bag may be adhered to a subsequent bag in a stack.
Preferably the plastic bag is of the type having gussets along the parallel closed sides, although any design of bag can be used.
In addition the bag may be printed on the side opposite to that with the adhesive strip, for decorative effect or advertising.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a stack of bags according to the first aspect, each bag being adhered to the one behind by the releasable low tac adhesive strip.
Typically the stack of bags will be mounted on a sheet of card or the like with the lowest bag in the stack being adhered to the card.
To help understanding of the invention, a specific embodiment thereof will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a front view of a bag according to the invention; Figure 2 is a perspective view of the bag according to Figure 1 in use; Figure 3 is a side view of a stack of bags of Figure 1; and Figure 4 is a front view of a second bag according to the invention.
Rafcuuig iv Figures 1 and 2, the bag I thereshown has a front 2, a back 4 and two sides 6, folded inwards and sealed 8 at the bottom 10, and is open at the top 12.
The outside of the back 4 is provided with a strip of releasable low tac adhesive material 14, near the top 12. As shown the strip 14 is in the form of double sided tape. Each side of the tape is provided with the same adhesive, but it is applied with force to the bag, forming a strong bond. Alternatively the strip of adhesive could be sprayed directly onto the bag.
The front of the bag can be printed, either for decorative purposes or for advertising.
In use a bag is stuck, using the releasable adhesive strip to a surface, for example the side of a bed side cabinet or the side of a desk, and used to take rubbish.
Once filled or as part of regular maintenance, the bag is removed from the surface, the releasable strip enabling this and leaving no residue behind, and disposed of in the usual way.
In a further advantage of the invention, the adhesive strip can be used to seal the bag once used. The top of the bag is rolled over and the strip can be used to seal to the front.
Before use the bags are provided in stacks, as shown in Figure 3. The releasable strip on one bag is adhered to the bag below in the stack. This has two main advantages; firstly it keeps the bags together in a neat stack without the need for additional containers, and secondly it prevents the requirement for a release tape to protect the releasable adhesive strip prior to use.
For support, the stack of bags is mounted onto a sheet of card or board, with the lowermost bag in the stack being afixed to the card with its releasable strip. This card supports the stack making it more transportable for use.
Now turning to Figure 4, the bag 100 thereshow is very similar to the bag of Fig'.re 1 i that it ai ia. a fluia 102, a back i04 and two sides 106, folded inwards and sealed 108 at the bottom 110, and is open at the top 112. The outside of the back 104 is provided with a strip of releasable low tac adhesive material 114, near the top 12. However, in this embodiment, the strip 114 is of double sided tape having high tac adhesive on the side attached to the bag 100 and low tac adhesive on the working side 116. Furthermore, the strip 114 is provided with a release tape 118 to protect the adhesive prior to use.
The invention is not intended to be restricted to the details of the above-described embodiment. For instance, the bags could be colour coded according to the waste they will collect.
