Abstract

A child's cot, crib or cradle is disclosed which comprises transparent sides and ends. The sides and ends may comprise clear plastic panels supported by a framework which may be made of plastic, wood or metal. The panels may have ventilation holes. The cot may comprise drop sides, and may be convertible into a bed as a child grows.

Description

Narrative to Support Drawing: A Clear View' Cot (Page 1 of 1) A cot of traditional frame construction but with clear view' side and end panelling (2,3,4,5) to allow baby to clearly see its surrounding environment and parent to clearly see the baby. No side or end bars.
Capable of arriving flat pack' for self assembly at home.
The clear panelling (2,3,4,5) may have characters, patterns or other designs integrated in some areas.
Vents may be added to the design dependant on safety requirements. Frame (6) may be wood, metal or plastic and design may vary. Clear panelling (2,3,4,5) to be plastic.
Could be converted to a Cot-Bed' by removing side panels (2,4) and adding a shorter end (foot) panel (3 or 5).
Cot may also have drop sides' (2,4).
Full size Maxi' Clear View Cot Has Approximate Measurements -Height (highest point) 100cm, Width 145cm, Depth 75cm.
Base can be set at 3 different levels for younger or older babies (7,8,9).
Smaller! medium versions may also be made available for younger babies in a Mini or Midi range. This is large (Maxi) and the size is based on a regular full size cot.
Baby doesn't feel trapped behind bars, can see all around his environment and parent has full view whilst video monitoring from another room, sleeping alongside or any other observation point.
No chance of getting legs stuck through bars. Baby less likely to try to look/jump/climb over the top, as view is not blocked by intermittent bars.

Description -Page
Background Of Invention: A New Style Cot'
I considered this idea as a relatively new mum who has carefully watched and considered the needs of her child and considered the comments of other mothers.
My son hates his current, traditionally styled cot. He is a very good baby and is always happy and jolly, that is, until I put him in his cot. He is then behind bars, like a caged animal, crying his eyes out. He can't properly see the room around him, he can only see an intermittent image of me reading his bedtime story and he does not understand why he has been caged' when he has not been naughty. We would treat our dogs or our goldfish better! Most babies also stand at the side or end of their cot to try to see over the top. This is obviously because they don't like trying to establish a picture through intermittent bars and prefer a clearer view.
My vision is to have an Empathy' approach and to consider not just what is a practical piece of furniture to keep your child in, but what would make the child happier and more aware of his or her surroundings. I want to release babies from behind their bars and give them a clear view' cot.
Features Of Invention The key feature of this invention is that it is a clear view' cot, giving the baby more of an uninterrupted view of his or her surroundings, rather than the current universal bars' design.
It will have clear view' entire plastic panelling to each side and end. Panelling may have integrated ventilation as required. Panelling would be mounted on a framework, which would be made of wood, plastic or metal.
The clear panelling may have characters, patterns or other designs integrated on manufacture in unobtrusive places to make the cot more appealing and interesting to the child The cot will be capable of arriving flat pack' for self-assembly'.
Available in three different sizes: Maxi', Midi' and Mini'. The Maxi' being a full size cot of approximate dimensions: Height 100cm, Width 145cm, and Depth 75cm.
The Mini' being intended as a replacement to a Moses basket' size and the Midi' being mid-way between the two for space saving.
Description -Page 2-
Features Of Invention (continued) A teething bar' may be incorporated at the top of the side and end panels.
Cot may have drop sides' to allow easy access to the child and the base may be capable of being set at three different heights.
Cot may have the functionality of being converted into a Cot-Bed' as the child grows, by removing side panels and adding a shorter end (foot) frame with panel.
The Clear View' cot not only provides a better environment for baby, but also allows a parent or carer a much better view whilst video monitoring from another room, sleeping alongside or any other observation point.
This cot also removes the chance of a baby getting its legs stuck between the bars of a cot.
