Field
This invention relates to retaining devices for retaining glazed units within their surrounding frames and is particularly suitable for use with windows having external beading.
Background of the Invention
Windows having glazed units may be internally glazed or externally glazed, i. e. the glazed panel is held in place within a window frame by beads secured to the internal surface or external surface of the window frame. Window frames having external beads may pose a security risk in that the beads can be prised away by unauthorised persons outside of a building to enable the glazed panel to be removed.
Retaining devices such as that disclosed in GB-A-2344 372, have been proposed to improve security of externally glazed units. The fitment of such security devices may cause problems if the glazing units need to removed from their respective frames for maintenance or replacement for some reason.
Glazed units are typically centred within their frames by the use of packing members which typically may comprise wedges which are inserted into the gaps between the frame and unit to hold the glazed unit substantially in alignment with the frame. These packing members may be formed as corner packing members as is described in EP-A-0526022.
The present invention seeks to provide a retaining device which is fitted in combination with a packing member
