Abstract
A shower curtain with a number of battens secured to the shower curtain, the battens provide additional weight and stiffness to the shower curtain and prevent the shower curtain from wrapping around the user or manoeuvring outside of the bath or shower tray. The battens are located in vertical pockets located on the shower curtain, and may be created by a fold in the material of the shower curtain or by attaching an additional strip of material to the shower curtain. The pockets may be the full height of the shower curtain, open at the top and closed at the bottom or a number of smaller pockets located vertically above each other. The battens may be formed as a single strip or rod or as a number of sections that connect to aid transportation, and made from glassfibre, metal or wood for example. The shower curtain may be made from polyester, PVC, EVA or PEVA. The battens may be removable from the pockets to allow the curtain to be washed and transported.
Description
* 2451104 Fully Battened Shower Curtain
Description
The fully battened shower curtain. (See figure 1 for a profile view) has been invented to solve the problem of conventional shower curtain wrapping around the user of the shower and to prevent the bottom of the curtain being hung or accidentally ending up outside of a bath tub or shower tray during or after use, which causes water spillage.
It achieves the solution to the above problems of conventional shower curtains by the addition of a number of full height or almost full height rods or battens being placed into pockets in a shower curtain. The rods or battens are inserted into pockets in the shower curtain material thus providing weight and stiffness to prevent the loose curtain material being affected by thermal columns of rising air caused by the warm shower water and external draughts, which effect conventional non fully battened shower curtains. The combination of the additional weight of the battens and the stiffening they give the material prevents the loose curtain cloth being drawn into to touch the user.
Conventional non battened shower curtains can easily and or accidentally be moved outside the bath tub or drainage tray. The battens mean that as long as there is a minimum overlap from the top of the bath tube or shower tray to the bottom of the battens of say 50mm it will require a conscious action by the user to lift, tilt and move the foot of the shower curtain outside of the bath tube or shower tray.
The battens and rods are removable to allow the curtain to be machine washed and easily transported. The rods can be made of any profile, solid or hollow and from any number of materials to suit the style and design required. The battens or rods can be made in one piece or in sections that connect to aide transportation.
The pockets in the material are created, depending on the material used for the shower curtain by a fold in the material as shown in Figure 2 or the addition of an additional strip of material fastened to the cloth to create a pocket as shown in Figure 3. The pockets can be one full height pocket open at the top and closed off at the bottom to support the rod or batten, or could be number of smaller pockets located vertically above each other, leaving sections of the rod exposed.
The full height or almost full height battens will guide the cloth when the shower curtain is pushed to one side after use, which will mean the curtain is likely to take up less space when stowed away.
