Abstract
245,084. International General Electric Co., Inc., (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts Ges.). Dec. 24, 1924, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Electrically-released switches.-A permanent magnet a, with integral pole-pieces c, co-operates with an armature b to hold a switch in one of its positions, and when a coil d, surrounding the pole-pieces and extending across the air-gap e between them, is energized sufficiently by current which produces a flux through the pole pieces in the same direction as the permanent flux, the armature-retaining flux is reduced whereupon the armature falls away thereby bringing the switch to its other position. The pole-pieces may be constituted by a single fixed core between the arms of the permanent magnet, leaving an air gap at each side, and surrounded by the winding d. The releasing winding produces a flux which tends to strengthen the permanent magnet. The device may be used as an overload trip, the current to be controlled passing continuously through the winding, or it may be operated by distant control by the distant momentary energization of the winding. In order to adapt the device to control by currents which may be in one direction or the other, two tripping devices as described operates a single switch through the link k, Fig. 3. The windings d on the two cores are connected in series and wound in different directions so that with one direction of current one armature b is released to operate the switch and with the other direction of current the other armature is released to operate the switch in the same direction. Alternatively, one tripping armature may be operated with excess current and the other by distant control.
