Abstract

A multi function tape measure comprising various tool items including <SL> <LI>a) a swivel tape hook end 9 <LI>b) a pointed tape end 1, for corner access measuring <LI>c) a tape end clip hook, for use as a pencil steady (hole 18), used on top of main tape hook end <LI>d) a tape end cup hook 10, used under the main tape hook end, when measuring frames across corners. </SL> There may also be a trammel for drawing cutting and trepanning large arcs of circles. Also, a fold down side plate 6 on the tape housing comprising: <SL> <LI>1) a metric and imperial drill diameter finder <LI>2) a metric and imperial thread finder 7. There may be a fold out general purpose knife 8 which may be removable; a fold out metal cutting hacksaw blade 5 (removable). </SL> Furthermore, there may be a fold down side plate on the opposite side of the tape housing comprising: <SL> <LI>3) a combined rule (17, figure 3) and internal external angle finder <LI>4) a 108{ protractor with holes every 10'' <LI>5) a 360{ circle drawing facility when used with the tape housing centre pivot on 6) a 90{ and 45{ edge marking plate facility. </SL>

Description

MULTI FUNCTION TAPE MEASURE
This invention relates to a multi tasking tape measure. Which solves several practical measuring problems, associated with conventional tape measures. And at the same time creating new ways of using the linear pull out beam tape. By way of a complete dead lock of the tape spool in both directions. This allows the pull out beam tape to act as a trammel bar. And for use as a trepanning tool for scribing cutting and sawing, when attached to an electric jigsaw by means of a rigid linking plate.
Conventional tape measures have a fixed hook end. Which can lead to a number of difficulties when measuring. Especially internal corners. The right angled hook end will not allow access into corners, to overcome this problem, the present invention proposes a swivel hook end, which can unclip and swing out of the way, allowing tight corner measuring by the the revealed 9O tip, which is fixed to the tape permantley. And located under the main hook end.
Corner to corner measuring of large frames, for squaring up can also be a problem.
When working alone. Conventional tape hook ends, will often slip off. When measuring, and have to be refitted. The present invention proposes a 9O cup hook which can be clipped under the main swivel hook, allowing positive locating of the tape end onto the frame corners the 9O cup hook can also swivel. Enabling the tape to pivot to any angle which needs to be measured.
At the back end of the tape there is an open slot and groove, which allows two tapes to be locked together end to end. Therefore doubling the measuring capacity of the tape. The locking of two tapes together, can be very useful, when measuring very long items, and working alone, as each tape end, can be hooked and secured by pinning through the holes on the main hook ends, at the ends of the item you need to measure and mark out, when the tape ends are secured, the tape locks can be completley released, allowing the tapes to move easily in either direction as the recoil springs in both tapes will cancel each other out. Allowing simple centre finding of the workpiece, and accurate marking out from both ends of the workpiece.
At the base of the tape housing there is a swivel plate with two countersunk holes.
Which allows static fixing of the tape measure both, horizontally and vertically, for use when working alone. When fixed the tape can still pivot through 9O, allowing any angle to be measured.

The tape housing has two fold down flap plates, one on either side of the housing.
On one side there is an angle plate which can be used as a protractor. It is marked out around the plate edge in 1 8O, there is also pencil marking holes every 1 Q and a row of pencil holes in a straight line from the tape housing to the plate edge, allowing the drawing of circles, when used in conjunction with the tape housing centre pivot point and pin.
The angle plate also holds the three section rule used for intricate measuring which the main hook end will not allow. The rule is also used as an angle finder. It can find any internal or external angle, by pivoting the two ends, any angle can then be copied.
The angle plate can also be used as a set square along the edge of the workpiece when set at gO to the underside of the tape housing, in this position the angle plate can also be used for parallel lining along the edge of the workpiece. When used in conjunction with the pencil holes on the face of the angle plate.
On the opposite side of the tape housing, there is a fold down flap plate, which comprises of a folding general purpose knife and a fine toothed metal cutting hacksaw blade, when either blade is required. The blades will swing out parallel to the housing, the flap is then closed, the tape housing can then act as a handle for either cutting blade.
The fold down flap also houses, a metric and imperial drill diameter finder, the centre of the plate houses a metric and imperial thread diameter finder.

Claims (1)

  1. A multifunctional tape measure in housing comprising: (a) A pivoting tape measure spool hook end, which can pivot freely about its axis point, on and about the tape measure spool end and (b) A pivoting tape measure spool hook end, which has a hole through its surface, in line with a hole through the tape measure spool, which allows a marking implement to be inserted through the said hole and (C) A tape measure housing centre pivot point, with spigot allowing the said tape housing to rotate through 36O about the housing centre spigot and (d) A tape measure spool hook end, fitted with a marking implement, which can rotate 360Q about the tape housing centre pivot spigot, allowing an adjustable radius length to be obtained and marked, limited only by the tape measure spool length and (e) A means for attaching the tape measure via a swivel plate to surfaces, which allows the tape housing to rotate about its axis at the tape housing centre pivot point.
