Abstract
A supermarket temperature controlled room door closing device used to close the sliding door 1 of the temperature controlled room automatically until fully closed after the door has been opened manually. The door is opened manually by hand for example by handles 2 and 3 provided on inner and outer faces of the door 1. A closing means is in communication with a timer such that after a predetermined time the door is automatically closed. An alarm is included such that upon closing of the door an audible warning may be provided. The room door closing device is particularly suited to a walk-in fridge or freezer.
Description
SUPERMARKET TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED ROOM DOOR CLOSING
DEVICE.
This invention relates to a device used to close the sliding door of a temperature controlled room in a supermarket automatically after it is opened manually.
BACK GROUND TO THE INVENTION
The drive to reduce energy usage in the supermarket is high. Supermarkets use temperature controlled insulated rooms to store their chill and frozen food products and keeping these moms in operation continuously throughout the year is expensive.
The nominal operating temperature of the chill room is between 0 to 5 degree Celsius and the frozen room is minus 21 degree Celsius. The temperature outside the room is the ambient temperature.
As from the above, there is a temperature difference between the temperature inside the room and outside. When the door opens and because of this temperature difference, there is air movement.
The degree Celsius rise in room temperature and the amount of moisture ingress into the room will depend on how long the door is left opened (apart from other contributing factors like the clear opening on the door frame, temperature difference, obstructions fitted over the clear opening or door frame).
It is advantageous to minimise the time period per door opening. There is currently a fully automated door opening and closing system but relatively expensive.
This invention is cheaper than the fully automated system and still contributes to energy saving.
This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying diagrams in which, Figure 1 is the diagrammatic plan view of the temperature controlled room with a sliding door (1) and the direction of the slide.
Figure 2 is the exploded diagrammatic plan view of the door opening area.
Figure 3 is the exploded diagrammatic view of the door lever (2) attached to the door (1) used to open the door manually from outside the room with directional arrows showing the movement of the door lever.
Figure 4 is the exploded diagrammatic view of the door lever (3) attached to the door (1) used to open the door manually from inside the room with directional arrows showing the movement of the door lever.
I
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This invention is now described by way of the working process below: It starts when the door (I) is in a fully closed position.
The door is manually opened using the door lever (2). This immediately activates a timer (Ti) and this timer is in communication with a switch (Si) or contact (C 1). The switch or contact will in turn be in communication with the door lever.
The timer times out and after the preset time, it activates the door closing device and this can be of rack and pinion type or using magnetic principles to close the door at a predetermined speed. The door continues to close until fully closed. When it is fully closed, the device is deactivated via a switch (S2) or contact (C2).
The other features worth considering for inclusion into the device are as described below: 1. when there is a electrical power failure, the device is deactivated and is designed to ensure the door can be opened manually. When this happens an alarm signal or audio alarm may be generated.
2. when the door is opened by door lever (2) or lever (3) while closing, it automatically activates the timer (T2). The process repeats as describe above.
3. when the door is closing and meets with an obstruction prior to the door fully closed, the device is deactivated via a switch (S3) or contact (C3) and an alarm signal or audio alarm may be generated.
4. when the door starts to close, an audio alarm is activated via timer (Ti).
Claims (2)
1. A supennarket temperatnre controlled room door closing device used to close the sliding door automatically until fully closed after the door has been opened manually, comprising: closing means for example by way of rack and pinion type or using magnetic principles; closing means in communication with the tinier/s and switches or contacts; an audio alarm in communication with a timer.
2. The purpose of the audio alarm in accordance to Claim 1 is to inform the staff that the door is closing for health and safety.
