Abstract
A building kit is disclosed which includes a series of annular members 1, each annular member having one or more peripheral apertures 2A-E, and one or more pegs 3A-E to engage into an aperture whereby two annular members may be joined together. One annular member may rotate relative to another annular member.
Description
Title: Model Build ing Kit The present invention relates to a novel
model building kit, especially a toy model building kit.
According to the present invention there is provided a novel building kit comprising a plurality of annular members, each annular member having one or more peripheral apertures, and one or more pegs to engage into an aperture whereby two annular members can be joined together.
Preferably each annular member has one or more peripheral apertures and one or more peripheral lugs forming said pegs. Preferably the or each aperture and lug are radially spaced.
Preferably the apertures and pegs or lugs are cylindrical whereby a peg or lug can rotate in an aperture allowing an annular member to rotate relative to another annular member.
In one embodiment there are six radially spaced lugs and apertures.
Preferably each ring member is rectangular, e.g. square, in cross section.
Preferably each cylindrical aperture axis is in the same plane as its annular member.
Preferably at least some pegs comprise elongate shafts with ends to engage in apertures or on lugs. The shafts may have a length corresponding to the diameter of at least some annular members when its ends are inserted in apertures or on lugs.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing showing a perspective view of two annular members joined together.
Referring to the drawing there is shown two annular members I forming part of a novel building kit.
Annular members 1 are in the form of plastic rings each rectangular, e.g. square, in cross section.
The longer side of the rectangular cross section shape may be normal to the plane of the annular member. Six cylindrical peripheral apertures 2A,2B,2C,2D,2E,2F are provided with the axis of each aperture in the same plane as the annular member 1. Also extending from the periphery of annular member 1 are six cylindrical lugs 3A,3B,3C,3D,3E,3F.
Apertures 2A,2B,2C,2D,2E,2F and lugs 3A,3B,3C,3D,3E,3F are radially spaced equally around the annular member 1.
Both annular members I can be joined together by inserting one lug (3F) of one member into the aperture (2F) of another member. Because each lug and aperture is cylindrical, so one annular member can be rotated relative to another annular member.
It is envisaged that a construction kit would be made up of numerous annular members, and which may be joined together in different configurations to make up different geometric shapes.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described. For example in addition to annular members, elongate shafts could be provided with ends to engage in apertures or on lugs of annular members. The shafts may have a length corresponding to the diameter of at least some annular members when their ends are inserted in apertures or on lugs. Such shafts could be used to join annular members together. The annular members could be provided with different diameters. The annular members could have different numbers of apertures and lugs. The annular members could have just apertures and separate pegs could be provided for insertion in apertures of annular members to join the annular members together. The annular members could be rings, or solid discs, or rings with circular inserts.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Claims (10)
- I. A novel building kit comprising a plurality of annular members, each annular member having one or more peripheral apertures, and one or more pegs to engage into an aperture whereby two annular members can be joined together.
- 2. A novel building kit according to claim 1, wherein each annular member has one or more peripheral apertures and one or more peripheral lugs forming said pegs.
- 3. A novel building kit according to claim 2, wherein the or each aperture and lug are radially spaced.
- 4. A novel building kit according to claim 2 or 3, wherein there are six radially spaced lugs and apertures. * * * *** ****
- 5. A novel building kit according to any preceding claim, wherein the apertures and pegs or lugs are cylindrical whereby a peg or lug can rotate in an aperture allowing an annular member to -rotate relative to another annular member. S... * * .S
- 6. A novel building kit according to claim 5, wherein each cylindrical aperture axis is in the same plane as its annular member.
- 7. A novel building kit according to any preceding claim, wherein each ring member is rectangular, e.g. square, in cross section.
- 8. A novel building kit according to any preceding claim, wherein at least some pegs comprise elongate shafts with ends to engage in apertures or on lugs.
- 9. A novel building kit according to claim 8, wherein the shafts have a length corresponding to the diameter of at least some annular members when its ends are inserted in apertures or on lugs.
