Description
Title: Baby Carrying Device The present invention relates to an infant
carrying device, and especially to a device which helps mothers breast feed their baby.
Many mothers find that though they are able to breast feed a baby at home in private, when they embark outside the home and choose to breast Ibed. facilities with privacy to do this are scarce.
and the mother has to breast feed in public. This option can be daunting for a mother who may be asked to stop feeding her baby in public places by members of the public who may themselves be otibnded by the mother breast feeding. A mother may also fear other people watching and criticising her.
As a result a mother may choose to feed by a bottle which may not be in the best interest of her baby.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a baby carrying device comprising: a) a hag in which a baby can lie, said bag having an opening to allow the baby to be placed in the hag.
b) a carrying strap extending from the bag to pass over the neck of a user to support the bag adjacent the front of a female user adjacent the breasts, and c) a privacy flap extending from the bag, said flap having one end connected to the bag and a free end, and d) flap connection means to releasably secure the free end of the flap to the carrying strap above the bag whereby the flap hides the breasts, in use a person can place and carry a baby in the bag. and secure the flap to the strap above the bag thereby being able to breast feed a baby with privacy.
Preferably the device further comprises a waist strap extending from the bag opening.
Preferably the waist strap extends from the rear of the bag adjacent the opening.
Preferably the waist strap is adjustable in length. Preferably the waist strap has two components releasably connectable by a clip.
Preferably the carrying strap is adjustable in length. Preferably the carrying strap includes a cushion to engage the neck of a user. Preferably the carrying strap extends from opposing ends of the bag opening.
Preferably the hag is lined with an absorbent fabric such as toweUing.
Preferably the flap connection means is Velcro.
An embodiment of the invention will now he described with to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view with the flap lowered, and Figure 2 shows a perspective view with the flap free end connected above the bag to the strap.
Relèrring to the drawings there is shown a carrying device I. Device I has an elongate bag 2 in which a baby can lie formed from fabric lined internally with a absorbent towelling material. Bag 2 has an opening 3 to allow the baby to be placed in the bag.
A carrying strap 4 extends from opposing ends of the bag to pass over the neck of a user "X" to support the hag adjacent the front of a female user adjacent the user's breasts. Strap 4 is adjustable in length by means of a slider buckle 4A. Carrying strap 4 includes a cushion 5 to engage the neck of the user.
A waist strap, in the form of two components 6.7, extends from the rear of the hag adjacent the opening 3. Component 7 is adjustable in length by means of slider buckle 7A. The ends of the two components 6,7 are releasably connectable by a clip 8A.8B.
A generally rectangular privacy flap 9 extends from one side of the bag opening 3. Flap 9 has one edge 9A connected to the bag and a free end edge 9B. Flap 9 has a flap connection means in the form of Velcro strips IOA.l IA which releasably engage Velcro strips IOB.l lB on strap 4.
The flap connection means releasable secure the free end of the flap to the carrying strap.
In use a person wearing the device can place and carry a baby in the hag 2 with the flap 9 hanging down as shown in Figure I. If it is desired to breast feed the baby in the bag, the flap can he raised and connected to the strap 4 above the hag. thereby allowing the user to breast feed a baby with privacy as the flap hides the breasts.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
The device of the invention may be used by a male person to carry a baby.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
