Abstract

A plug-in charger for battery-powered electrical items has a recoiling cable reel 1 with a connector 3 at the free end of the cable which serves to connect the charger to an electrical item to be recharged. The charger can have a two or three pin plug and be usable with either 220v or 240v to suit most European countries. The charger may have a voltage selector allowing the user to select various voltage outputs. The charger may be provided with a variety of interchangeable connectors allowing it to be used with a number of different electrical items so that it is not necessary to have a separate charger for each.

Description

Desnption Battery Charger This invention relates to a device for
charging mobile phones, lap tops, D V D's, mp 3's, camera's, games, etc. Plug-in type battery charges all come with 5-6 ft or more of wire for connecting to various items and you need a different charger for every item -all this results in a birds nest of wires and plugs so that every time you want one charger four more come with it, even packing for a family holiday now involves six or more chargers all in a nice big birds nest type knot and all this can be avoided.
The battery charger that I propose and would like to call the cuckoo as this bird doesn't make any nests could be made as a two or three pin 220v/240v plug-in type to suit most European countries also it would have a built in wire rewinding device operated by a coiled spring system or friction.
The recoiling/rewinding drum shown (figure 1. No.1) would be fully charged when the wire is pulled out to its maximum, to prevent the wire from recoiling when not required to do so needs a break system.
A sliding break similar to those found on tape measures could be used or a cog-ratchet system ( figure 2/4) is an option but the simplest method might be to have a rubber stop on the wire near the maximum pull-out maik that can slide into a nanower slot either side of the feed-hole as shown on figure 3/4.
The battery charger could be made for single voltage out-put or with a voltage selector to suit the vast majority of the most common out-puts needed so one charger can do all and there would be no more binls nests.
For multi-voltage out-puts various plugs that connect the item to be charged to the charger can be made to engage the existing wire-end plug as shown in figure 4/4. A wide selection of these plugs can be made for the most common devices and supplied separately so you only have to buy the ones you need and not a whole set but you might want to buy a whole set to suit your requirements if needed, an average fmily would need a whole set for all of their appliances.
This battery charger will be made as close to the size of a normal plug-in type tharger as possible so as not to invade socket space beside when in use. I believe the built-in rewinder is unique and therefore no more birds nests of wire.
Introduction to Drawings
Figure 1 shows a plug-in type battery chaiger with built in wire winding device Figure 2 shows a cog and ratchet break system to prevent wire rewinding when not required to do so Figure 3 shows a simpler break system of a stop slot, the stop going into the slot to prevent unwanted recoil Figure 4 shows how various plugs may be connected to the charger to enable it to charge many different devices
