Abstract

A window for use in observing hazardous or potentially hazardous areas is shown. This device enables the inspection of an area without the inspector having to physically enter the area. The depression or indentation in the panel permits the head or even the whole body of the inspector to enter beyond the boundary wall of the area to examine areas that would not otherwise be visible. A planar window leaves blind spots in the areas immediately adjacent the window.

Description

Description
Indented transparent inspection panel The invention relates to a vision panel for use with a controlled environment, such as used for retaining substances or material within an enclosed area For example, when removing hazardous materials from buildings.
The invention consists of a rigid transparent plastic or glass panel shaped to enable a face, the upper body or even an entire person to enter. The panel forms part of a barrier between the environment-controlled enclosure and the exterior.
Problem There are cases where: * hazardous materials or chemicals are being removed from buildings and an inspector needs to be able to verify that it is being done in accordance with prescribed rules * substances, such as genetically modified seeds need to be retained within a building and observation is necessary * Other restricted access areas such as forensic to avoid disturbing or contaminating the area and Medical isolation units The most common approach to handling this is to form a hole in the wall or barrier between the controlled and the non-controlled areas. This hole is then covered with a planar transparent panel to permit inspection. However, this allows only a partial view of the area as substantial blind spots remain close to the wall containing the panel.
The invention serves to avoid this by its indentation allowing the inspector's head (or body) to be inserted. The view of the complete area is thus unrestricted and no blind spots exist.
Essential Features 1. The indentation is of a sufficient size to enable the head, part or the full body of the inspector to enter and turn 2. The transparent plastic or glass panel is of a single piece construction impervious to particulate or gaseous material 3. The area surrounding the indentation is planar to facilitate sealing to the wall A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows the face panel FIGURE 2 shows the body panel FIGURE 3 shows how the invention might be used with a controlled environment enclosure As shown in figure 1, the invention comprises a transparent panel with an indentation sufficient to enable the human face to enter. t
As shown in figure 2, the larger format enables the entire body to enter Figure 3 shows an illustration of the invention's use on an environmentally controlled enclosure, such as constructed for the removal of hazardous material (eg asbestos) 2.
