Abstract
A garment for a baby or infant which comprises a top portion with one or more upper openings for the head and arms and a lower portion which is open A to allow at least the feet of the baby to protrude from the garment, wherein the lower portion includes a fastener B which can be opened and closed between the babies legs. The fastener B may take numerous forms and may prevent the garment riding up. The garment may prevent the baby's feet being restricted to allow them to stand or walk and also prevent overheating.
Description
1. 2447841 Garment for a baby/infant.
This invention relates to a baby/infant sleeping garment. This invention proposes that the bottom of the garment would be open, allowing the feet to be completely uncovered and secured by fastening means between the baby's/infant's legs.
When my own children have slept in an enclosed baby/infant sleeping bag they have become too hot and frustrated by their feet being restricted. They have struggled to stand up and have fallen within their cot whilst moving from a lying to standing position. To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes that the bottom of the garment be open, allowing complete freedom of the feet to move and the baby/infant to stand and walk freely. This reduces the chance of the baby/infant becoming overheated or irritated by lack of freedom for their feet.
According to the invention the garment for a baby/infant comprises a top portion with one or more upper openings for a head and arms, and a lower portion, the lower portion open to allow at least the feet of the baby/infant to protrude from the garment, wherein the lower portion includes fastening means which can be done up or undone between the baby's/infant's legs.
The open baby/infant garment covers the infant from shoulder to ankle. The length of the garment would be made according to the measurement from the shoulder to the anklebone. The length of the garment allows the baby/infant to stand and walk freely. A button/popper or other fastening means, secures the garment between the baby/infant's legs to prevent the garment riding up the torso during sleep. The fastening means would also allow for ease of nappy changing during the night, without having to remove the baby/infant from the garment. The opening width around the feet of the garment is wide to allow freedom of movement of the legs. The top opening of the garment would allow the baby/infant to be easily placed inside and the garment put on over each shoulder and then zipped up. Additional fastening means would secure the garment below the armpit and on warmer nights these can be left unfastened to allow for more ventilation.
The advantage of this design would help to prevent overheating of the baby/infant during sleep. It allows for the infant to stand and move freely whilst in the cot or bed. It would relieve the frustration of feeling their feet are restricted.
The invention will now be described by way of example only, and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows the garment with straps that secure over the shoulder with fastening means. The garment has a side zip fastener and the bottom of the garment is open with fastening means between the baby's/infant's legs. 2.
Figure 2 shows the garment with a centre zip fastener and the bottom of the garment is open with fastening means between the baby's/infant's legs.
In Figure 1, the main feature (a) of the design is that the bottom of the garment is open allowing the legs complete freedom of movement. (b) is the fastening means that secures the garment between the legs to prevent the garment from riding up the torso. (C) refers to the side zip fastener that allows greater ease of placing the baby/infant inside the garment. (d) these fastening means can be secured to increase the warmth of the garment, in addition to securing the garment around the upper body. These fastening means can also be left undone on warmer nights to increase ventilation around the upper body. (e) the straps are secured over the shoulders and fastened with fastening means allowing greater ease of placing the babylinfant inside the garment.
In Figure 2, the main feature (a) of the design is that the bottom of the garment is open allowing the legs complete freedom of movement. (b) is the fastening means that secures the garment between the legs to prevent the garment from riding up the torso. (C) refers to the front zip that allows greater ease of placing the baby/infant inside the garment. (d) these fastening means can be secured to increase the warmth of the garment, in addition to securing the garment around the upper body. These fastening means can also be left undone on warmer nights to increase ventilation around the upper body.
Although not shown in the drawings, the fastener (b) could be one of a variety of one or more fastening means, for example, button and eye, button and loop, popper/press stud, hook and loop, tab and loop fastening system, tie fastener, clasp, toggle and loop, toggle and eye, hook and eye, permanent sewn fastening, buckle or magnetic fastener.
An important feature of the invention is that the fastening means can be done up or undone after dressing the baby/infant in the garment, for example, to change a nappy during the night without having to fully remove the garment. 3.
