Abstract
A baby heartbeat monitoring device to prevent cot death comprises a wrist band 4 to be attached to the baby's wrist, an electrode sensor 3 to measure pulse rate, and a lithium battery 2. If a change in heartbeat is detected the wristband wirelessly transmits an alarm signal to a remote receiver device 8 where an audible alarm is sounded.
Description
DETECI1ON DEVICE FOR BASIL The invention relates to a detection alert
device intended to monitor babies heartbeat I pulse to prevent cot death.
An alarm will sound on the cordless monitor I receiver (figure 3) when the heartbeat I pulse changes, slows down or even stops.
This device will work through the use of a sensor (3) that will be placed around a baby's wrist in a form of an adjustable discreet band (figure 2) similar to the bands given at hospitals when a baby is born.
The band will have to be adjustable because it will have to fit snug against the baby's wrist for the sensor (3) to work and to prevent the band from moving.
This band could either be fastened by cfip, Velcro (1), or a fastener of some kind.
This detection device would then be able to detect when there is a change to the heartbeat I pulse on the babies wrist due to an electrode (3) in the band sending a signal to the receiver (figure 3).
The receiver (figure 3) should be cordless and manoeuvrable so parents can be any where in the house and will be able to transmit eta distance of twenty meters or more.
The receiver will have an on/off button (7), and will have a green light (5) to show that the device is switched on.
The alarm must sound loud enough through the speaker (6) to wake parents, or to be heard from another room.
A small lithium battery (2) will power the detection device, and the receiver (figure 3) could either be powered by a battery or mains.
The baby detection device will give all new parents piece of mind, also it will be cheap to produce therefore every new parent will be able to afford one.
The advantages of the baby's wnstband being adjustable is you can use the device from the age of 0-12 months plus.
Refer to drawings overteat
I a
SDecification In figure 1, the wristband (4) Will be fitted together by Velcro (1) will be stitched onto the band.
On the inner side of the wristband the battery (2) and sensor (3) will be placed under a thin piece of soft material to prevent the band harming the baby (as in figure 2).
Figure 2 shows how the wristband (4) Will be placed around the baby's wrist by Velcro (1) and how the sensor (3) will be placed directly onto the baby's pulse, which will be powered by a battery (2).
Figure 3 shows a diagram of the receiver (8), which will be plastic and cordless. The speaker (6) will sound an alarm if a change to the pulse I heartbeat is detected.
The receiver (8) will show a green light (5) to indicate the machine is on, and the on/off button (7) WIll switch receiver on and off.
An exat of the tnveion iid now be described by rnfti1ng b the compamying drawings.

Claims (3)
- Claims 1) To help prevent cot deaths in babies the present inventionproposes a wristband placed around the baby's wrist the band being powered by a lithium battery.
- 2) A baby detection device receiver will be cordless; therefore it will be manoeuvrable for parents to move freely from one room to another.
- 3) A baby detection device Will bansmit any changes to the pulse from the wristband to the receiver as an alarm signal according to claim 2.
