Description
Title: Pill Disrenser for Blister Pack The present invention relates to
a pill dispenser for a blister pack.
It is well know to package pills in blister packs. Such packs usually comprise a plastics sheet with individual pill recesses formed therein, with each recess supporting a pill, and a foil bonded to the plastics sheet sealing the pills in their recesses. Each pill is extracted from the pack by deforming its pill recess pushing the pill through the foil.
A problem with such blister packs is that persons with limited dexterity find it difficult to extract the pills. Also once the pill is extracted, it can easily be dropped on the floor by such persons.
Also the blister packs are not childproof, and children can easily gain access to pills in blister packs. The invention seeks to provide a solution to these problems.
According to the present invention there is provided a pill dispenser for a blister pack having a plastics sheet with one or more pill recesses and a foil covering each recess, said dispenser comprising a base member to engage with the foil side of a blister back, said base member having a face to engage with the foil of blister pack, and a cavity extending away from the base member face away from the blister pack, said cavity leading to a pill delivery location in the base member, in use a pill recess can be deformed and the pill ruptures the foil and falls into the cavity and slides to the delivery location.
Preferably the pill dispenser cavity is or can be in use under each pill recess in the blister pack.
The pill dispenser may be integrally bonded to the blister pack, integrally formed with the blister pack, or may be releasably secured to the blister pack.
The pill delivery location may be a tray to support a pill, or a mouthpiece to deliver a pill into the mouth.
The base member face may engage with the foil around the periphery of at least part of each recess to support the pack plastics sheet when the pill recess is deformed. In one embodiment the cavity is made up of discreet chambers adjacent each recess and each chamber leads to a conduit extending to the delivery location.
In one embodiment the base member includes channels in which can slide the edges of a blister pack.
In one embodiment the base member and blister pack sheet is formed from a single sheet of material, and said foil is applied to the blister pack sheet to create the blister pack and the base member fold over the foil to engage the blister pack.
