WINDOW STRUCTURE IN A FIREPROOF DOOR
The present invention relates to a fireproof door system, having a looking window structure such as a through view or transparent window in a door casement. More particularly, the present invention relates to an improvement of a system including a fireproof door system and a window structure. Said structure may be an injection molding casement installed on both sides of a door to clamp a glass pane or panes of the window, the circumference of the space for installing said window being equipped with a U-type reinforced board to reinforce the strength of the circumference of the window in the fireproof door. Not only does this make it possible to produce on a large scale and to assemble easily and simply, but also the design of surface ornament of the fireproof door can be manifold, i.e. in many forms.
Traditional structures for a window casement in a fireproof door often use an iron or wooden frame or casement as a strip to fix a glass sheet in a window. Their installation and fixing are quire complicated. Further, a fixing screw is easily exposed so as to impair a view through the window. Painting on the surface of the iron casement or wooden casement is often difficult and production procedures and sizing or gradation are also rather complicated and time-consuming. Moreover the appearance of the glass frame strip is often not aesthetic as it is hard to decorate.
Large scale production is also difficult, so is expensive and a relatively low price is not possible, which is one of the defects of a traditional frame strip.
U.S. patent No. 4,270,326 discloses a fireproof door having a fabric of ceramic or glass fibers attached to a metal frame and covered by facings. The fabric which also may be used as a fireproof mat consists of layers of titanium-treated ceramic or glass fibres felled together by similar needlelike fibres extending through an intermediate layer of fireproof particulate material. The design of said door of said patent takes into consideration the core material of fireproof door board. Although excellent in fireproof efficacy, the design of the window is not however considered.
U.S. patent No. 5,020,292 discloses door constructions to be provided including a frame, a core, and on both the inner and outer faces of the core an iron plate at least 0.2 millimetres thick with a wooden layer adhesively secured to the outer surfaces thereof. Preferably the core provided is a material having superior heat insulating properties with a heat conductivity of between about 0.15 and 0.05 as well as a diffusion resistance at least 20 times greater than that of air. In a preferred embodiment, each of the iron plates has a wooden layer adhesively secured to both the inner and outer surfaces thereof. Also, the design of the window is not yet considered.
U.S. patent No. 4,264,681 provides an improved process for making a multiple pane fire resistant window whose spaces are filled with an aqueous gel possessing multiple carbon bonds, wherein the improvement comprises placing a thin layer of an adherence agent on the contact surface of the panes, prior to placing the aqueous gel in the spacing. Further, the design of the window is not considered.
U.S. patent No. 4,015,393 discloses a panel such as a door having a fire-resistant core and a frame encompassing the edge margins of the core. A method of making such a panel wherein the frame is prepared of frame portions which are united together in the frame. A method of forming the core in place within a frame, with the introduction of a hardenable material to within the confines of a frame, and permitting such material then to harden is disclosed. A door skin or other covering is adhesively secured in place over faces of the panel. Further, the design of the window is not considered.
U.S. patent No. 4,332,111 discloses a fireproof window pane in which a glass plate having metallic wires incorporated therein is fitted in the groove of a mounting metal frame to a depth corresponding to at least about 1.6 times the thickness of the glass plate at least at its upper edge. Also provided is a mounting metal frame for mounting a fireproof window pane which has grooves for receiving the metallic wire-containing glass plate therein to the aforesaid depth. The fireproof window pane can withstand fire or high temperatures over a long period of time, and is useful for preventing spreading of a fire and for aiding in fire extinguishing activities. Though the fireproof window pane is installed, yet only the circumference of the pane of one side is screw fixed. The other side of the fireproof window pane is fixed with a frame strip. Such structure provides an asymmetrical design of door frame. The window disclosed is fireproof but the production procedure is too complicated to provide for easy installation and use.
Another patent of U.S. patent No. 6,681,541 invented by the same inventor discloses a fireproof door assembly structure which includes two molded door panels of compression molded skins having outer surfaces of a wood-grain appearance and flat edges around their four sides. These molded door panels are overlaid with each other to form a door with a hollow core. A rectangular frame seals the door panels and coincides with the flat edges of the door panels. A reinforcing part is provided between the panels in an area for attaching a handle to the door panels. A core of fireproof material is formed between the door panels to produce the fireproof door, and top, left, and right edges of the rectangular frame have a groove for receiving a fireproof strip therein. However, the design of the window is not considered.
It is an object of the invention to seek to mitigate these disadvantages of the prior art.
According to the invention there is provided a structure for a window casement of a fireproof door, comprising a fireproof door, U-type reinforcement sheet with fixing means and a window frame having a transparent sheet, the fireproof door having an open place providing a space for window installing, the U-type reinforcement sheet with the fixing means being secured in a fireproof core material at a rebate of the fireproof door at a desired place on its circumference, a female sheet of the window frame having a female detent adapted to be placed in an open place for the window installing space and a male sheet of the window frame having a male detent, the male and female detents being connected together to provide an assembled structure.
The connection of the respective detents may be by a push-fit.
Using the invention it is possible to provide a structure for a window casement of a fireproof door, having a fireproof door, U-type reinforcement sheet with fixed pin, and a window frame clamped with glass sheet. The fireproof door has a cutting open place for window installing space, and the U-type reinforcement sheet with the fixed pin is fixed into the fireproof core material between a mezzanine of fireproof door at the proper place of the circumference. The female sheet of window frame has female button to be placed on the cutting open place for window installing space and male sheet of window frame having male button clasped each other.
Structures comprising a window in a fireproof door is hereinafter described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings.
Fig. 1 is a partial perspective view of a window structure in a fireproof door according to the invention; Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view to a smaller scale than Fig. I of a window structure in a fireproof door according to the invention; Fig. 3 is a partial enlarged transverse sectional view of a window having a single glass sheet in a fireproof door according to the invention; Fig. 4 is a partial enlarged transverse sectional view of a window having double glass sheets in a fireproof door according to the invention; Fig. 5 is a partial enlarged transverse sectional view of a window frame in according with a window structure in a fireproof door according to the invention; Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a U-type reinforcement frame of a window structure in a fireproof door according to the invention; and Fig. 6-1 is a perspective view of another U-type reinforcement frame of a window structure in a fireproof door according to the invention.
The present invention relates to an improvement in features relating to fireproof doors and provides for straightforward production, there being a U-type reinforced element for a circumference of a window casement to reinforce the strength of a board of a fireproof door, the hollow between said casement and board of the door being filled with fireproof filler, without using a screw to lock the casement and board together and being able to assemble the window of a fireproof door rapidly. This is illustrated as follows: The invention relates to a structure for a window casement of a fireproof door, the structure having a fireproof door 1, U-type reinforcement element or sheet 5 with fixing pins 4 and a window frame 2 clamped together with a glass sheet 3. The fireproof door I has a place which is cut therethrough for installing the window frame 2 in an installing space 11, the U-type reinforcement sheet 5 with the fixing pins 4 being fixed into the fireproof core material 10 between a rebate or mezzanine of the fireproof door I at a desired place at the circumference, a female sheet 20 of the window frame having female detent or latch 203 to be placed in the cut open place for the window installing space II and a male sheet 21 of the window frame having male detent or latch which items 203 and 213 are latched together as by a push fit to connect them together.
Fig, I is a partial perspective enlarged view as in accordance with a window structure in a fireproof door of the invention. The fireproof door board 12 of the fireproof door I is installed with a complementary surface 200 of the window frame 2 at a suitable place. The glass sheet 3 of the window is clamped between the window surface 200.
Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view in accordance with a window structure in the fireproof door according to the invention. A cut open place for the window installing space 11 is located at a suitable place in the fireproof door 1. At a desired place of the circumference of the cut open place, U-type reinforcement elements or sheets 5 are installed into the fireproof core material such as phenolic resin or other organic materials 10 of the fireproof door 1, said U-type reinforcement sheets 5 being fixed from outside by pinning through the fireproof door board 12 with fixing pins 4, so as to cause the U-type reinforcement sheets 5 and the fireproof door board 12 to be secured closely together. In order to install the glass sheet 3, a cut open place is made for the window installing space 11 in the fireproof door 1. Thus, this would normally cause the fireproof door board 12 to be weakened partially at this location in the fireproof door 1. After the U-type reinforcement sheets 5 are combined securely with the fireproof door board 12 the weakness in local strength is effectively overcome by installing the U-type reinforcement sheets 5 which have the purpose and efficacy of reinforcing the structure of the fireproof door board 12.
The window frame 2 (referring to Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 5) is an injection molding casement formed with a female sheet 20 and male sheet 21. The structure provided by injection molding is able to shorten the manufacturing process of the window frame 2 and to control the amounts of material required to provide for a relatively simple manufacture.
The surface of the female sheet 20 and the male sheet 21 of the window frame 2 has a surface 200 which acts as a constricting or confining surface. Such a coarctation forming surface 200 is able to form an ornament on the plastic material in advance of assembly, and then formed on or applied to the surface of the female sheet 20 and the male sheet 21 of the window frame 2. Further, it is also able to form ornamentation on the plastic material first, then to form a three-dimensional protruding or embossed ornament, and then to pressure secure them on the surface of the female sheet 20 and the male sheet 21 of the window frame 2.
The inner side of the female sheet 20 has the female detent, latch or button 203, and the inner side of the male sheet 21 has a male detent, latch or button 213. While installing the window frame casement, the inner part of the circumference of the female sheet 20 is coated as by painting with fireproof glue 6 and a fireproof material for thermal expansion strip such as graphite substance, an expansion strip being simultaneously installed into the circumference of the window installing space II, then after the female sheet 20 coated with fireproof glue 6 is pushed into the window installing space 11, the glass sheet 3 is placed on the female sheet 20, and then the inner part of the circumference of the male sheet 21 with the glass sheet, window frame and core material coated with the fireproof glue and fireproof material with thermal expansion of graphite substance, from the other side of the fireproof door 1, is pushed into the window installing spacel 1, finally the male button 213 of the male sheet 21 and the female button 203 of the female sheet 20 connect with each other and are fixed on the fireproof door 1.
The top of the female sheet 20 has a top or upper as viewed female sheet 204 and the top of the male sheet 21 has a top or upper male sheet 214 (referring to Fig. 3) and are able to accommodate the fixing pins 4 behind the surface of the fireproof door 1, so they are not exposed to view. The male and female sheets also have at their bottom or lower parts respectively bottom female sheet 205 and bottom male sheet 215. The glass sheet 3 is placed centrally between the sheet parts 205 and 215. The circumference of both sides of the glass sheet are infihled with sealed fixing glue 7, and then the window frame is fixed on the fireproof door 1.
Using the invention it is not necessary to lock by using a screw, and so to provide a simple and quick assembly method. Further, after completion of assembly, there is no nail-head or head of a fixing screw exposed, which would otherwise be detrimental to the appearance.
Figs. 4 and 5 are sectional views of the window frame with double glass sheets 3 in accordance with a window structure in the fireproof door according to the invention.
The circumference of the space between the double glass sheets 3 is filled with a space block 31 to separate the glass sheets 3, the sheets and block being fastened and sealed with a fixing glue.
The procedure for assembling is otherwise identical with those for the single glass sheet, Figs. I to 3.
Referring to Fig. 6 and 6-1, in case the fireproof core material 10 is a hardenable material, for example an inorganic fireproof material such as calcium silicate board, pearl board (foam board), magnesia board, etc. a relatively larger force is required to place the U-type reinforcement sheet 5 in place. The front part of both sides in the U- type reinforcement sheet 5 is cut and punched into a serration arrangement 51 (Fig. 6-1) arranged in a row pattern to provide for a convenient installation of the U-type reinforcement sheet 5 into the fireproof core material 10. Further, both sides of the U-type reinforcement sheet 5 can be formed as by cutting and punching to have a cross-section reinforcement groove 52, and the top parts of both sides of U-type reinforcement sheet 5 are cut into the shape of a front tip part 53 so that said U-type reinforcement sheet 5 can be pushed into the fireproof core material 10 formed with hardenable material more easily.
It will be understood that the female sheet 20 and the male sheet 21 of the window frame 2, during installation procedures, are able to use fireproof tape instead of fireproof glue.
Since certain changes may be made in the above described invention without departing from the scope of the invention hereinbefore described with reference to the drawings, it is intended that all of the subject matter of the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted merely as examples illustrating the inventive concept herein and shall not be construed as limiting the invention.
