Abstract
A notice/display board comprising horizontal slats mounted to a backboard. Notices X may be frictionally held to the notice board between adjacent horizontal stats. The notice board does not require the use of moving parts, chemicals or pins and the like.
Description
NIP BOARD (PINLESS PENBOARD)
Background of the Invention.
Pin boards/notice boards! display boards are in common use, but rely on other/additional parts to enable the placing and then fixing (pinning) of materials such as wood, paper, plastic, fabric and other rclatcd products/items. Either there is a need to puncture said items, change the properties of the items by adding an adhesive or there is some involvement of moving parts prone to loss and then the need to replace.
This invention seeks to alleviate such problems by making it unnecessary to damage or add chemicals too afore mentioned items when fixed to a board for whatever purpose. Also, this invention will remove the need for additional parts when performing these flmctions.
Summary of the invention.
According to the invention there are a series of specially moulded slats that Sit in such a formation that they create a slot, or groove, that when items such as paper, card or other like materials are placed into are held securely until removed as required.
Description of Drawings.
Drawing!.
Drawing 1 (figure 1) is of a side-on view of the Nipboard. The drawing is not to any specific scale. It demonstrates the orientation of the slats as they would have to be placed to create the gripping groove, (ii). The Nipboard is made using M.D.F. (medium density fibreboard), though it could be produced using other materials such as metal, plastic or other manufactured or natural woods, M.D.F. provides the right amount of friction to enable ease of insertion of material. This material will then be held securely in place. (See drawing 3 figure 1, line (x) represents affixed material).
The sharp exposed end of the moulded slat (i) has been blunted to ensure no sharp or cutting edges.
The slats should be fixed at point (iii). The distance as shown by point (a) can vary slat by slat, but I have shown (as in drawing 2) all slats uniform at this measurement. The distance as shown by point (b) can also vary if larger items than paper or card are required to be fixed i.e. cardboard or carpet. Distance (c) is the thickness of the back board which should be strong/thick enough to attach the slats to using a Poly Vinyl Adhesive or any other method by which two pieces of M.D.F. might be joined. Overall thickness is represented by point (d). The Thickness (d) minus (c) would indicate the thickness of the slats which is arbitrary as long as the moulding remains in the style displayed in drawing 3 figure 2 and drawing 4 figure!.
Drawing 2.
Drawing 2 (figure 1) is a suggestion of the appearance of the Nipboard (front elevation).
Areas (a) indicate the borders and areas (b) indicate the slats in this design. The number of slats is arbitrary as is the size of the Nipboard.
Dimensions (c) and (d) -The Nipboard could be produced in small, domestic, easy-to-use sizes right up to sizes that could be used in offices or large display areas amongst other places. Though the slats could run vertically, a horizontal orientation is preferred as then gravity plays its part in keeping affixed materials flat to the Nipboard. (See drawing 3 figure 1, line (x) represents affixed material).
Drawing 3.
Drawing 3 (figures 1 and 2) describe the moulded shape and give better detail as to how the Nipboard works.
Looking at points (i) and (ii) on figure 1, there are two locations that enable a friction fit of material/s placed within. Point (i) gap reduces to 0 in size whereas point (ii) may be preset at a desired measurement i.e. 0.5mm. Line (x) represents material placed in the groove, between two slats, and that is being held there.
In figure 2 points (z) (y) and (u) work to give the shape of the moulding. This is not a scale drawing but the formula described is correct. (Drawing 4 Figure 1 is a scale diagram) (z) Thickness of slat on side elevation.
(y) Perpendicular line from the slat on side elevation.
(u) six times (z) and measurement placed on (y)to find radial point.
(w) Resulting line of arc and shape of moulding.
Distance (u) can be altered slightly by increase or decrease of distance on (y) I have found theoptimunidistancesasrangingfrom: u5xz tou=l2xz.
Drawing 4.
As referred to in drawing 3.
Drawing 5.
Drawing 5 (figure 1) shows another possible orientation and shape of the slats that would enable materials (x) to be fixed to Nipboard more securely. This may be more useful for Nipboards used for display and that don't necessarily have regular daily use. Points (y) and (z) Can be altered to accommodate specific sizes of paper for example i.e. (y) = 287mm therefore the right distance to take an A4 sheet of paper 297mm long.
Drawing 6.
Drawing 6 (figure 1) demonstrates a way in which a Nipboard would be constructed.
Slat (a) is fixed to the backboard around area (d) this can be achieved using any generally excepted methods for adjoining two pieces of M.D.F. such as these, but in this instance slat (a) is glued using Poly Vinyl Adhesive (P.V.A.). Slat (b) is then moved into position (c) and the process of fixing slat (b) to the backboard is same as slat (a). This process may contine until desired size and shape Nipboard is Produced.
Claims (5)
- L-I. A notice/display board which uses no moving or additional parts to hold items (such as a document like this) indefinitely.
- 2. A notice/display board as claimed in I above which uses no adhesives (or chemicals to that effect) to hold items (such as a document like this) indefinitely.
- 3. A notice/display board as claimed in I and 2 above which uses a combination of Friction, form and gravity, alleviating the need for pins, adhesives, magnets or any other moving or chemical part, which would otherwise be employed.
- 4. A notice/display board as claimed in 1,2 and 3 above which will hold materials of various different sizes, shapes and properties all on one board with no moving or chemical parts required other than the materials to be affixed.
- 5. A notice/display board as claimed in 1,2,3 and 4 above which, although can hold items (such as this document) indefinitely, will not in any way damage, or add any amount of any chemical to, the item.
