Abstract

A fall prevention grid comprises six aluminium bars which are connected to each other in a pivoting grid. When in use the bars are arranged perpendicular to each other. The bars are allowed to pivot via a rotating bolt connection, which allows the grid to collapse into a small space for transport and storage. Once opened and positioned, the grid is secured by sliding clamps positioned near the ends of the bars. Additional clamps may be used within the lattice for clamping it into small openings. The grid has been designed to fit a variety of openings up to one Metre Square, and in use will protect workers over shafts, wells etc.

Description

Description of Invention for Patent Application
Portable Fall protection Grid System The attached drawings detail the fall protection system. Many workers in the water and other industries are involved with operations around open chambers, wells or shafts. The potential to fall in is obvious. Although safety law (LOLER regulations) require such openings to be protected it is often very difficult in practise.
This invention solves the problem in many situations. The relatively lightweight aluminium grid can be opened up and secured by clamps across the opening or void.
The grid acts as a fall protection system and stops accidental falls into the opening. It provides a relatively cost effective means for complying with safety legislation and potentially could save lives.
The grid consists of six aluminium bars that are crossed in a lattice work, three one way and three the other. They are joined where they cross with a rotating bolt connection. This allows the grid or lattice to be folded into a relatively small area for transport and storage. Once opened and positioned the grid is secured by sliding clamps at the ends of the aluminium bars. In addition other clamps have been developed to act within the lattice for clamping into small voids.

Claims (1)

  1. Claim For patent: The Fall Arrest grid (drawing attached) is a new
concept in fall prevention and protection while working around open chambers. It has particular relevance to the Water Industry and construction.
The grid is a portable fall protection device based on a folding lattice design. The grid is a portable unit that folds for transport. It is clamped in position over a chamber opening and acts as a fall prevention system. The grid can be used in a variety of situations and will protect openings up to one Metre Square. The grid has ten clamps in all; eight end clamps and two intermediate clamps that are designed to prevent accidental movement once positioned. The grids have been designed to meet all relevant British and European Safety Leg islation.
