Description

Door Display This invention relates to a door display, and
particularly, to one having means for securing items to be displayed thereon.
Photos, messages and pictures etc, can be desired to be displayed in such large volumes that having them all on display at once, without causing damage to walls, is particularly problematic. For such reasons people often turn to attaching notes, memos and photos to doors in order to prevent unsightly blemishes to walls. Alternatively, it may simply be a question of space. Wall putty (Blu-tac ), sticky tape and nails may be used to attach objects to doors. However, wall putty does not provide a permanent fixture of the object to the door and therefore objects may fall down, and nails and sticky tape leave unsightly blemishes that are hard to disguise. Another problem, relat.
particularly to doors, is that many doors are not planar, having small alcoves, or pane1s, therefore making the successful hanging or attachment of flat objects to therrr troublesome.

However, none of the forgoing provides a complete system for the user as there is no method described for a door display being able to display multiple objects at the same time.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and effective door display panel and parts providing a display device that is free from the disadvantages mentioned above, or at least mitigates their effects.
According to the present invention, there is provided a hanging door display, comprising a fabric material, having a hooped surface and adapted to receive an item to be displayed on the door display that has a hooked surface to engage said hooped surface of the display and retain this item on the display, stiffening elements spanning the width of the material at the top and bottom edges of said material to rigidize the display and hooks which connect to said top and bottom edges and are adapted to fasten over the top and bottom edges of a door. The hooks require no tools or other fasteners for securement.
Preferably the fabric material is woven material or felt.
In a preferred embodiment said hooked surface of said item is provided by a patch of hooked material adhered to a rear surface of said item to be displayed.
The stiffening elements are preferab'y rods. The rods are preferably wooden, metal or plastic. The rods preferably span the width of the fabric. The rods are preferably sewn into the fabric. Alternatively, the rods may be glued to the fabric or secured by any other
suitable means.
Alternatively, the stiffening elements may comprise tensioning elements extending from corners of the material connected to spaced locations at the top and bottom of a door.
The hooks are preferably wooden, metal or plastic. The hooks preferably pass throuh'' reinforced incisions in said material. S..

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Embodiments of the invention are further described hereinafter, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure Ia shows the front plan view of the door display according to the present invention showing several items, e.g., notes or memos, attached thereto by self adhesive means, and Figure lb shows an alternative arrangement; Figure 2a shows a cross-sectional view of the door display of Figure la and Figure 2b, shows a similar cross-section of a slight variation of the arrangement of Figure ib; Figure 3 shows a cutaway cross-sectional view of the top of door display of Figure 1; * * Figure 4 shows a cutaway cross-sectional view of the door display showing a note or memo attached to the display panel by a hook and hoop connection; *.: Figure 5 shows a cutaway cross-sectional view of the door display with alternative means of attaching the hooks to the material; and Figure 6 shows the door display rolled up as it would be purchased, with a reinforced incision visible in the material where the hook may pass through when assembled, and a packet of hook and hoop pads together with the required hooks.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
With reference now to Figures la, 2a, 3 and 4 of the drawings, an embodiment of the door display according to the present invention is designated generally with the reference numeral 10. The exemplary door display comprises a section 12 of fabric material having a hooped surface 40 for receiving an item 22 to be displayed on the door display 10. The item 22 is provided with a self-adhesive patch 18 with a hooked surface 19 to enable attachment to the surface 40.
The section 12 has rods 13, 14 spanning the width of the material 12 attached to the top 13 arid bottom 14 edges of the said material 12 to rigidize the device 10, as shown in Figure Ia. The display is hung vertically, as shown in Figure 2a, using hooks 16 which pass through reinforced incisions 17 in said material 12, around the upper rod 13 and fasten over the top of a door 21. The door 21 may be a personnel door, such as a bedroom door or a closet door or other similar vertical structure. The hooks require no tools or other fasteners for securement, simply hooking over the top edge of the door. In Figure la, the lower rod 14 creates tautness of the sheet 12, securing the device in place, under tension, caused by the weight of the rod 14.
Alternatively, however, a similar hook arrangement is preferably provided at the bottom of the display 10. That is to say, further hooks 16a, as shown in Figure 2b, may connect the bottom rod 14 to the bottom edge of the door 25. In this connection, the fabric 12 of the display 10 may itself be resilient so that it can stretch to permit attachment of tI'e"' hooks 16,16a at the top and bottom of the door 21, and the resilience of the fabric f2:: keeps the device taut. On the other hand, adjustable straps 15 (Figure 5), 15a (Figure.
2b) may interconnect the hooks and at least one of the top or bottom edges of tIie device 10.
Figure 4 shows how a note, memo or picture 22 can be secured by hook and hoop..
means 18 to said material 12 of said door display 10. In a preferred embodiment a hooked patch 19 provided with self adhesive is attached to the rear of objects 22 to be displayed.
In Figure 1 b, the rods of the Figure 1 a arrangement are dispensed with and instead four hooks 16 at top and bottom of the display 10' tension sheet 12 both vertically and horizontally. Again, it may be the resilience of the fabric 12, or the resilience of the ties 15', that keep the fabric taut. Alternatively, or additionally, the ties 15' may be adjustable in length, either to provide the tension on the display 10 or simply to enable better adjustment to doors of different size.
In another embodiment shown in Figure 5, hooks 16 are tied to an additional strip of material 15", which in turn is attached to the main section of material 12. Material strips 15" provide adjustment capacity in the event of different door dimensions.
Figure 6 demonstrates how the door display 10 may be rolled up as it would be purchased, with a reinforced incision 17 in the material 12 showing where the hook 16 may pass through when assembled and a packet of hook and hoop pads 19 together with the required hooks 16.
It is also possible for the material 12 of the display to be arranged to be ferromagnetic, so that a magnet can also attach to the display providing a further display capability.
Indeed, a dart board image may be printed on fabric 12, whereby magnetic dart games may be played using the display 10.
The present invention thus provides a convenient hook and hoop (and/or tape and/or magnetic) securement door display which has a variety of uses. The door display according to the present invention may replace conventional means of displaying objects on walls and doors by the means of suspending from a door or another suitable vertical object, therefore removing the need to perforate doors with nails or leave unsighfly::: blemishes caused by tapes and wall putty.
