Abstract
Plastics pipe sections are joined by placing said pipe sections in clamping means. A solvent is applied to the joint. The pipe sections are then manoeuvred into contact with each other via pneumatic/hydraulic actuators.
Description
PNEUMATIC P V C SOLVENT WELD ASSEMBLY TOOL
Background of the invention.
A system ofjoining and aligning large diameter P V C Pipes from 6" 8" 10" & 12" socket solvent weld joints used in the water industry and chemical industries (FIG I) A wheeled chassis for manoeuvrability in the field or workshop to contain (FIG 2-3-4-5-6-7-8) (FIG 2) Parallel channels welded together at a set distance with adjustment holes to allow (FIG 4) To be aligned at the correct distance. These adjustment holes also can be used for (FIG 5) Flange buffer plate.
(FIG 3) End plate is welded to one end of (FIG 2) The end plate is for receiving pneumatic cylinders.
(FIG 4) Elbow and tee shoe is bolted to (FIG 2) For aligning the fitting i.e. tee correctly with the end plate.
(FIG 5) Flange buffer plate is for aligning the flange with the end plate.
(FIG 6) Safety guard frame that is hinged in two places in its length and to the back gas strut assisted, which holds transparent material to be able to see full operation of the tool.
(FIG 7) Rectangular control cabinet with lid, not drawn. Pneumatic control cabinet which houses control valves and operation lever.
(FIG 8) Pipe clamp, which is spit in two halves and bolts together to clamp the pipe, also has plates welded to the bottom half for fixing the pneumatic cylinders.
(FIG 4--5-8) are made in varying sizes from 6" to 12" according to the size of pipe required to be joined.
(FIG 1-2-3-6-7) Are standard and able to accommodate all sizes of pipe to be joined.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PRESENT INVENTION
Full operation of pneumatic solvent socket weld tool Select (FIG 4-5-8) of the size of P V C pipe to be joined together i.e. 6" Open the safety guard (FIG 6) assemble (FIG 4) elbow and tee shoe to the parallel channels bolting together at the correct adjustment holes. (FIG 8) Pipe clamp to be assembled to the pneumatic cylinder shafts with the lock nuts and back nuts. Then connect the pneumatic air supply. The tool is ready for operation. With the pneumatic air supply connected through a series of valves then through the lever valve allows the forward and backward travel. With the guard lifted this disables the lever for safe connection of components, therc is a depth stop valve which is located inside the guard area that needs to be set on a scale for the depth to travel inside the fitting. All the components are pneumatic. With out a pneumatic supply available a regulated inert cylinder gas can be used for site use.
Place 6"pipe into (FIG 8) Which is split in two halves, clamp the pipe with the bolts. Place i.e. tee into (FIG 4) Clamp tee down allowing enough space for ease of application of solvent primer and then cement to the joint to be assembled. Set pneumatic stop to the correct depth of the fitting. Close (FIG 6) guard that activates pneumatic valves making the system live. Push the lever on top of (FIG 7) Control cabinet in the forward direction arrowed on the cabinet. The cylinders travel forward in the direction of arrow engaging the pipe into the fitting i.e. tee. The cylinders travel hit the preset stop abutting the pipe in the tee. The stop-hit time must be allowed for the solvent reaction to take place as the solvent may push the joint apart. After the solvent has had time to cure the safety guard may be lifted disabling the pneumatic system. The pipe and tee may be released and withdrawn from the tool, the operation is now complete. Close the guard activating the pneumatic system push the lever backwards the cylinders now return to start position. The tool is now ready for the next operation. Pipes may be joined in the same tee by rotating in (FIG 4) elbow tee shoe, as the elbow tee shoe is universal in any direction. Long lengths of pipe may be supported by stands in all directions. (FIG 5) Buffer plate can be used as a pipe support for in line tee assembly or a flange may be hung on the locating pegs and pipes abutted in the flange by following the sequence from the ready for operation. (FIG 4) Elbow tee shoe and (FIG 5) Buffer plate can be bolted on the parallel channels as required. (FIG 9) May be used in the pipe clamp for elbow to tee or elbow to elbow with short lengths of pipe in between.
Claims (1)
- SPNEUMATIC P V C SOLVENT SOCKET WELD ASSEMBLYTOOLClaims I.For use in the field and in the workshop for joinmg 6" 8" lO"& 12" PVC pipe work. A system of joining two or more pipe sections in different configurations into solvent socket fittings comprising of a u shaped plate in which the pneumatic cylinders are located with a pipe clamp affixed to the cylinders.* This plate is fixed to a main channel bed.the channel bed is two channels fixed parallel with flat welded plates to set distance with a series of holes for adjustment of the second u shaped buffer plate which has studs protruding down for fixing to the main bed.* Other Tee and elbow jigs can be used on the main bed that is fixed to a stand.* The control panel with pneumatic valves in is located to the side of the cylinders * The stand has two wheels at one end and handle at the other end for using in different locations.* Fix air supply to the control panel, the guard lifted allowing access to the pipe clamp and buffer plate, place flange on buffer plate location pegs, place pipe in clamp secure with stud bolts, set stop to depth required, apply solvent cement Close guard, push lever on top of control panel forward, cylinders extend pushing the pipe into the fitting, the pipe abutted then hit's the stop. Operation fmished time is then allowed for the solvent to weld the two parts together. After said time the guard lifted the pipe clamp released and pipe removed. Replace guard push lever to reverse cylinders retract ready for next operation.
