Abstract

A bulk bag used for storing, conveying and transporting solid materials such as plastic granules or powders has a discharge outlet formed in its side wall. The outlet may comprise a flexible sleeve sewn or otherwise attached to the side wall of the bag. It may be angled downwardly to facilitate removal of contents from the bottom of the bag. With such a side outlet a material extraction tube/wand can used to directly empty the bag, such as by use of vacuum. When the bag is suspended for emptying the height required is reduced. There may be more than one side outlet.

DESCRIPTION. 4
Invention relates to those bags commonly known in industry as BULK BAGS made from flexible materials for the storage, transport and conveying of bulk (solid) materials such as plastic granules or powders.
The proposed design has a SIDE outlet (on one or more of the 4 sides of the BULK BAG) as opposed to a top or bottom outlet as with the current design of BULK BAGS.
See fig!.
The side outlet consists of a sleeve attached/sewn to the side through which a tube like solids material extraction wand can be inserted at an angle to reach the bottom of the bag to extract the contents typically using vacuum power.
The bottom of the BULK BAG can also be designed to be angled such that when it is suspended from the top the material flows to the lowest natural point for extraction to completely empty the BULK BAG. See fig 2.
Health and Safety advantages: 1. Reduction/Elimination of spillages and hence an improvement Ln housekeeping and therefore a reduction in hip hazards particularly for granules and powders.
2. Reduction in height of frames that may currently use bottom outlet bulk bags to discharge/empty the contents. See fig 3.

b. No major increase in cost of BULK BAG c. Easytouse d. No major capital cost outlay -ready to use immediately e. Reduction in BULK BAG change over time f. No other BULK BAG available with this design g. Colour coded system to distinguish unique BULK BAG design from the standard ones available

Claims (4)

  1. I. BULK BAG design has a SIDE outlet on one or more of the 4 vertical sides of the BULK BAG-see fig I.
  2. 2. The side outlet is designed as a flexible sleeve which is attached/sewn to the side ofthe bag-see fig I.
  3. 3. Amateiialextrectionwand/tubecanthenbe inserted intotheBULKBAG through the flexible tube to sHow for the discharge and emptying of the BULK BAG -see fig I.
  4. 4. Curient BULK BAG designs do not provide for this type of lhci lily to discharge/empty the BULK BAG.
