PADDLE RACKET HAVING LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOW DRAG
COEFFICIENT
The present invention relates to a paddle racket that has light weight and tow drag coefficient.
A conventional paddle racket generally has an oval head frame and a handle connected to the head frame to be held by the user. The head frame has a smooth periphery with two parallel ball-hitting surfaces for hitting a ball and a plurality of through holes in the ball hitting surfaces, which are formed in the center thereof. However, because of the diverse technologies used in production of the paddle •••

rackets and the detailed structure of the paddle racket, the paddle rackets sold :••••• in the market have a different flexibility when they are in use. A paddle racket •****• having a good flexibility in use can be easily manipulated by the user to efficiently hit the ball and can also reduce the user's risk of athletic injury. Thus, the issue of how to improve the structure of the conventional paddle racket in order to enhance its flexibility in use is always the manufacturer's concern.
The present invention seeks to provide a paddle racket, which has light weight and low drag coefficient to enhance the flexibility in use thereof.
According to the invention, a paddle racket comprises a head frame having a flat shape with two parallel ball-hitting surfaces and a periphery on which at

least one concavity is provided, and a handle connected with the head frame.
Preferably the head frame further comprises at least one convexity adjacent to the concavity, the convexity being provided with an air-guiding channel having at least two openings. The air-guiding channel may extend in a direction perpendicular to the ball-hitting surfaces.
The air guiding channel may have a cross shape extending between four openings provided in the lateral surfaces of the convexity.
Alternatively, the air-guiding channel may have a T shape with the head of the T extending from opposite lateral sides of the convexity while the stem of the T extends radially outwardly of the head frame.
The whole of air-guiding channel may be located at an imaginary plane.
The convexity may have a top side and four lateral sides. One of said openings of the air-guiding channel may be formed on the top side of the convexity.
The air-guiding channel may be provided with three said openings, and the other two of said openings may be respectively formed on two of the lateral sides of the convexity. The air-guiding channel may be provided with four said openings respectively formed on the four lateral sides of the convexity.
The invention will now be described in greater detail, by way of example, with

reference to the drawings, in which:-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a third embodiment of the present invention,
and
FIG 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 of FIG 3.
As shown in FIG 1, a paddle racket 10 in accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention comprises a head frame 20 and a handle 30.

The head frame 20 has a flat shape with two parallel ball-hitting surfaces 22 for • ••

hitting a ball. Four concavities 24 and three convexities 26 are formed on each I
of two opposite lateral sides of the periphery of the head frame 20 and are •***"• arranged alternatively. That is, each convexity 26 is located between two concavities 24. Each convexity 26 has a top side 261 facing radially outwards from the head frame, four lateral sides 263 surrounding the top side 261 and an air-guiding channel 265 extending therethrough. Each air-guiding channel 265 extends in a direction perpendicular to the ball-hitting surfaces 22 and is provided with two openings 267 on two opposite lateral sides 263 of the convexity 26.
The handle 30 has an end connected to the head frame 20.
Because there are a number of concavities 24 and air-guiding channels 265 formed at the periphery of the head frame 20, the weight of the paddle racket 10 can be reduced to a certain extent so as to enhance the racket's flexibility of use. Thus, the paddle racket 10 can be manipulated and swung with very little effort on the part of the user. Also, when the user swings the paddle racket 10, air will pass the head frame 20 through the concavities 24 and through the air-guiding channels 265, so that the drag experienced by the paddle racket 10 moving through the air will be reduced, thereby further enhancing the flexibility of use of the paddle racket 10. Further, since the concavities 24 and the air-guiding channels 265 are formed on the periphery of the head frame 20 which doesn't usually hit the bail, the arrangement of the concavities 24 and the air-guiding channels 265 will not influence the ability to hit the ball nor the power with which it can be hit.
It is to be understood that the form of the air-guiding channels are not limited to the type of channel shown in FIG 1. As shown in FIG 2, a paddle racket 40 in accordance with a second embodiment of the present invention also comprises a head frame 50 and a handle 60 connected to the head frame 50. The head frame 50 also has a plurality of concavities 54 and convexities 56 as shown in FIG 1. However, in this embodiment the air-guiding channel 565 of each convexity 56 has a cross shape and the whole of the cross-shaped air-guiding channel 565 of the respective convexity 56 is located in an imaginary plane 58. The air-guiding channel 565 of each convexity 56 is provided with four openings 567, which are respectively formed on four lateral sides 563 of the convexity 56.
As shown in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, a paddle racket 70 in accordance with a third embodiment of the present invention also comprises a head frame 80 and a handle 90 connected to the head frame 80 as shown in FIGS 1 and 2. The head frame 80 also has a plurality of concavities 84 and convexities 86. However, the air-guiding channel 865 of each convexity 86 has a T shape and the whole of the T-shaped air-guiding channel 865 of the respective convexity 86 are located in an imaginary plane 88 parallel to the hitting surfaces and at right angles to the plane 58 of FIG 2.. The air-guiding channel 865 of each convexity 56 is provided with three openings 867a and 867b. One opening 867a is formed on the top side 861 of the convexity 86 and the other two openings 867b are respectively formed on two opposite lateral sides 863 of the convexity 86.
The paddle racket can have various different designs falling within the scope of the present invention. For example, the number and the position of the convexities, the concavities and the openings are not limited to the above-mentioned embodiments. They are changeable, if desired. Further, the shape of each air-guiding channel is not limited to linear shape, cross shape or T shape. Radial shapes, curved shapes, irregular shapes etc. can also be
