Abstract

A cable a mechanically fixed to a device commonly known as a trigger lock c, without impairing the efficiency of the trigger lock. The security cable a can be used to protect all types of firearms j from theft and unauthorised use.The universal firearm security cable enables the firearm to be attached to a secure point either at home or when travelling, with or without a gun slip. This one size universal firearm security cable fits all firearms, shotguns, pistols, air weapons and muzzle loaders.

Description

UNIVERSAL FIREARM SECURITY CABLE
This invention relates to a universal security cable for firearms and can be used to protect from theft and unauthorised use of all firearms that have a trigger guard and trigger (s).
The universal firearm security cable is a strong cable of suitable construction and sufficient strength so that it cannot be cut or broken easily, with a loop crimped onto one end.The other end of the cable is fixed to a device commonly known as a trigger lock, which is available on the open market from several manufacturers. The trigger lock is a two part item which is pressed together from each side of a trigger guard on a firearm. It is then locked by a plurality of locks which may include a key lock, combination lock, electronic lock or electronic radio release lock. This prevents access to the trigger(s).The trigger lock on its own does not prevent a firearm from being stolen. The trigger lock is attached to the cable which is of sufficient length to enable it to exit a gunslip and be padlocked to a secure point,or the part of the trigger lock with the cable attached can be passed through the loop on the end of the cable (after the cable has been placed around a secure point) before the trigger lock is attached to the firearm, the padlock is then not required.
This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings and in which: Figure 1.
Illustrates the universal firearm security cable and its component parts viewed from the underside.
a.The cable.
b.The loop crimped to the cable a.
c Illustrates one half of the two part trigger lock with the cable a.attached.
d. Illustrates one half of the two part trigger lock containing the locking components.
e. Illustrates and represents a trigger guard of a firearm viewed from the underside.
The trigger guard e.is shown between the two parts of the trigger lock c.and d.which are pushed together to lock onto the the trigger guard e.The two parts of the trigger lock c.and dare locked with any one of a plurality of locks which may include a key lock,a combination lock.an electronic lock or electronic radio release lock.
Figure 2.
Illustrates the method of fixing the cable a. to one part of the trigger lock c.shown sectioned and hatched, which entails drilling a hole through the trigger lock c.and inserting the cable a.and crimping a nipple f.onto the cable a.Also illustrated is the cable a.attached to a secure point g.by putting the cable a.around a secure point g.and passing one part of the trigger lock c.through the loop b.on the end of the cable a.
before the trigger lock c.is attached to the firearm.A padlock is then not required.
Figure 3.

CLAIMS.
1. A universal firearm security cable, whicb will fit all flreanns that have a trigger guard, comprising of a cable with an eyelet or nipple crimped to one end to facilitate mechanically and permanently fixing to a trigger lock and with a loop crimped to the other end of the cable thus enabling the universal firearm security cable to be attached to a secure point using a padlock to attach the loop to a secure point after the the trigger lock is fitted to a firearm or by encircling a secure point with the cable and passing the trigger lock through the loop on the cable before fitting the trigger lock to a firearm.
2. A universal firearm security cable as claimed in claim 1 that has a loop crimped to one end of the cable which is used to attach it to a secure point in a car, hotel room, house or gun rack.
3. A universal firearm security cable as claimed in claim 1 comprising of a cable that is fixed with a non-removable star washer or a crimped nipple to a trigger lock.
4. A universal firearm security cable as claimed in claim I that can be used in conjunction with a carrying case or gunslip and attached to a secure point.
