Abstract

An audio-visual equipment enclosure arrangement 1 comprises at least a first enclosure 2 and at least a second enclosure 3. The enclosures are provided with at least one directional positioning means 4 about which they may rotate and extending means 9 to allow the distance between them to be varied. In a closed position 5 both the said at least first and second enclosures provide a substantially protective cover for the audience-facing portions 6 of each other, and in an open position 7 the relative directions of the audience-facing portions of the said at least first and second enclosures can be varied in at least one axis. The enclosures may also be provided with orientation varying means 8 to allow at least their audience-facing portions to be rotated about at least one axis. The enclosures may be used as cases or cabinets for a combination of loudspeakers, lighting and display equipment.

Description

Folding Enclosure For Audio-Visual Equipment
Background to the Invention
The storage, transportation, and deployment of audio-visual equipment is often problematic due to the size, weight, and complexity of the equipment involved.
Particularly in live music applications, loudspeakers and lighting equipment require considerable effort to set up before a performance, and to dismantle afterwards.
Often small bands and solo artists have to carry heavy, bulky equipment into venues themselves, which is tiring and time-consuming. This is also potentially hazardous where heavy items such as loudspeakers are mounted onto stands to project the sound into the venue above the audience.
Aim of the Invention One aim of this invention is to provide compact, lightweight enclosures for amplifiers, loudspeakers, lighting units, and similar audio-visual equipment, while avoiding the need for separate stands to raise the equipment to working height.
Application may also be found for such enclosures in public and domestic installations where space is at a premium, allowing large video displays, for example, to be stored compactly when not in use.
Preferred embodiments of the invention are described with reference to the following drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a typical equipment enclosure arrangement according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows a typical equipment enclosure arrangement according to the invention applied to loudspeakers.
Figure 3 shows a typical equipment enclosure arrangement according to the invention applied to lighting equipment.
Figure 4 shows a typical equipment enclosure arrangement according to the invention applied to a combination of lighting equipment and loudspeakers.
Figure 5 shows a typical equipment enclosure arrangement according to the invention applied to a combination of visual display equipment and loudspeakers.
Aspects of the invention described in one embodiment are applicable to all and any alternative embodiments of the invention.
Description
In Figure 1, an equipment enclosure arrangement 1 comprises at least a first enclosure 2 and at least a second enclosure 3. The said at least first and second enclosures 2 and 3 are together provided with at least one directional positioning means 4, such that in a closed position 5 both the said at least first and second enclosures 2 and 3 provide a substantially protective cover for the audience-facing portions 6 of each other, and in an open position 7 the relative directions of the audience-facing portions 6 of the said at least first and second enclosures 2 and 3 can be varied in at least one axis. The said at least first and second enclosures 2 and 3 may each be provided with orientational positioning means 8 to allow at least their audience-facing portions 6 to be rotated about at least one axis. The said at least first and second enclosures 2 and 3 may each be provided with extending means 9 to a'low the distance between them to be varied.
Preferably, the said at least first enclosure 2 acts as the supporting base for the said equipment enclosure arrangement 1, and is provided with extending means 9, directional positioning means 4, and stabilising means 10.
Preferably, power and signal connections to equipment housed in the said equipment enclosure arrangement 1 are provided with coupling means 12 between the said at least first enclosure 2 and said at least second enclosure 3. The said coupling means 12 may be separate or integral to all or any of said at least first enclosure 2, said at least second enclosure 3, said directional positioning means 4, said orientational positioning means 8, and said extending means 9.
In Figure 2, for a preferred embodiment, the said equipment enclosure arrangement 1 houses loudspeakers 11 in both the said at least first and second enclosures 2 and 3, the electrical connection to them being provided with coupling means 12 between the said at least first enclosure 2 and second enclosure 3.
In Figure 3, for an alternative preferred embodiment, the said equipment enclosure arrangement 1 houses lighting equipment 13 in both the said at least first and second enclosures 2 and 3, the electrical connection to them being provided with coupling means 12 between the said at least first and second enclosures 2 and 3.
In Figure 4, for an alternative preferred embodiment, the said equipment enclosure arrangement 1 houses a combination of lighting equipment 13 and loudspeakers 11.
In Figure 5, for an alternative preferred embodiment, the said equipment enclosure arrangement 1 houses a combination of visual display equipment 14 and loudspeakers 11, the electrical connection to them being provided with coupling means 12 between the said at least first and second enclosures 2 and 3. The said at least second enclosure 3 is provided with orientational positioning means 8 to allow the said visual display equipment 14 to be rotated between substantially vertical and substantially horizontal orientations.
