Abstract

A method and circuit (300) for deactivating a contactless identification device or RFID tag, such as an e-passport or an ID card that has been revoked, has expired, or is invalid. A programmable memory circuit (304; 410) is coupled to a controlling circuit (303) that is coupled to a shorting circuit (302; 408, 409) for the antenna interface (301; 421, 422) that may activate or deactivate the power circuitry (305; 401-404) of the identification device.
