Abstract
A spectacles counterbalance device comprising a tubular slide on connector figure 9 (and figure 11) to fit the glasses temple arms or fulcrum areas and a rearwards extending beam or wire projection with a counterbalance weight or mass attached at its end, the wire or beam being so shaped as to slide into the tubular slide on connector extrusion with a telescoping action to facilitate the adjustment of the counter balance effect and for storage. The invention preferably is used together with a nose pad or brow pad arrangement, perhaps of generic design; that preferably prevents the excessive spectacle movement about the wearers head. Although the invention is specified to fit onto any spectacles frame, purpose built spectacles may preferably comprise the invention possibly fitted in conjunction with a nose or brow pad.

A TELESCOPING ATTACHABLE LENS WEIGHT NULLIFYING SPECTACLE
ACCESSORY
IMPROVMENTS IN AND RELATING TO SPECTACLES III
This invention relates to improvements in and relating to spectacles and in a preferred embodiment provides a modification of standard spectacles side members as illustrated in the following drawings of a working prototype model In addition to the temple member modifications shown a special anatomically contiqured nose crest-brow engaging butterfly shaped pad provides a very light upwards touch on the lower over hanging nasal area of the supra orbital eyebrow ridge just below the inner medial portions of the eyebrows as shown in figures 5 through 9.
Since counterbalances at the temple tips weighing in the area of 4 to 13 grams urge the lens front upwards the pad or pads as shown in figures 5 & 7 may only touch the bottom of the lower forehead brow overhang above the nose and/or below the eyebrows acting to eliminate all downwards pressure on the nasal crest figures 6 & 8. The wearer can easily control the extent of the upwards lift without changing to heavier weights by sliding the rear temple member rearwards so as to lengthen the temple thus increasing the length of the rearwards fulcrum arm behind the ears. In this way only a minimum amount of counterweight is actually needed compared to the amount needed if it was closer to the ears The larger and heavier the spectacle front is the longer the portion behind the ear must be andfor with heavier counterweights if the wearers lenses are very heavy.
They may be either made with heavier specific gravity metals such as brass, zinc, silver or gold and/or made larger in the case of less heavy metals such as zinc in order to achieve a standard weight. The counterweights combined with the variable length telescoping or tromboning temple length gives the wearer perqt control of the balance thus preventing all slippage tendencies along with concomitant nose marks. The anterior contact area is at Fig BA. The front and rear of the spectacles are equally balanced on both sides of the head at 8B. The rearwards contacts are at C where the ballast or counterbalance weights are located. Fulcrum areas 8B shown on the head in figures 8 & 9 at sides of the head and grooves at the tops of the ears in cases where of all lens weight is being nullified. Contact points in Fig BA, B & C all cooperate to nullify lens weight The present model shown has soft plastic extrusions with rounded triangular or oval cross sections figures 9 & 11. There is an inner slot to receive the thin flat flexible spring steel (or springy plastic wires) which slide inside the extrusions and are easy to bend and adjust to the shape, length, and width of most wearers heads. If needed adjustments are simple for the wearer or the optician to perform with little or no pad adjustment on the nose needed at all. When the device is not worn the temples can easily be telescoped inwards and thereby shortened for compact case storage as in figures 1, 9 & 10. Figures 2, 3 & 9 show an extended position for wearing. Figure 9 shows the dynamic spread apart configuration when on the wearers head and the all round general clasping effect with very little pressure in any one place. The materials need maybe of any thin metal or even some spnng like plastics with soft coating or covenng if desired. More than one extrusion size of very soft stretchy silicone rubber will be needed due to variations in spectacle temple tip end shapes and sizes.
Ordinary nose pads may be used but with those with very sensitive sides of the nose a special butterfly shaped pad in figures 5& 7 fitting on the area in figures 6 may be better.
It provides a very light pillow like touch in that area just above the nose and thereby prevents wobbling of the lenses resulting from head movements or when walking as would be the case if there was no touch at all This pressureless touch leaves no marks and although it is felt the wearer has a stable, secure, comfortable feeling. This pad could alternately made of disposable soft foam material, be fluid filled or with a thin covenng of foam or felt with adhesive backing. One or two ordinary nose pads on arms going upwards instead of downwards could accomplish the same purpose as the special pads shown in figures 5 & 7. Figure 2A shows the location of a split tube or a U shape extrusion fitting on the top rim of spectacles if the brow pad is not practical to apply on certain frames. This tube or extrusion could bndge across between the lenses and could then also fit much as would a brow pad secured to the bndge even though it would be spaced away above a lower located bridge The contact area is further shown in figures The wraparound sport model shown in figures 12+13 shows a practical configuration which contacts not only the lower bottom of the eyebrow overhang above the nose but also the same reverse ledge just below the eyebrows at the tops of the eyelids Fig 8A.

FIG 2 Folded extended position ready for wearing when opened.
FIG 3 Top view in folded extended position.
FIG 4 Top view in static position ready to wear FIG 5 Special lower brow contact pad lifted upwards by counterbalances and fulcrum above the ears.
FIG 6 Contact area of form fitting pad of figure 7 FIG 7 Contact area on the wearers midbrow nose area including the brow overhang above the nose andlor bottom of eyebrow overhang above the eyes which is contacted by the lens nm or curved wrapped around sports frame upper rims shown in figure 12. the touch is at the top of the pad with sufficient counterbalance effect resulting in a small air space at the bottom of the pad due to nose clearance.
FIG 8 Side view showing the three contact areas on the wearers head FIG 9 Top view showing contact areas.
FIG 10 Short closed compact telescoped position for storage.
FIG 11 Extrusions cross sections in two variations.
FIG 12 Sport glass designed so as to touch both the brow overhang above the nose and brow overhang above the eyes due to the wrap around design.
