Abstract

A tube 1 with a solid base and with a screw down air tight lid 2 that is characterized in having a rotating cap 3 that can be clipped over the base. The cap has a small rectangular window 5 through which the base of the tube can be seen. The base can have various colours printed on it directly or it may have a sticker 4 with the colours fitted thereto These colours can be viewed through the hole in the cap when rotated, and the window can be set to the colour representing the colour of the paint on the roller. The storage tube can also be used with an inner bag (see Fig.3)

Description

I
Background of PM%ff ROLLER SLEEVE STORAGE TUBE
When using a paint roller to paint a wall or ceiling for example the paint on the roller sleeve Mll become hard over a few hours between coats especially if its the next day or even a few days later. The common thing to do to solve this problem is to leave it in a bucket of water which is ok but then when you go to use it again it is soaking wet and you have to roll the excess water out of it Qfl say a wall or board which is messy and not always possible especially ii your in a lived in house or fiat The other soloulion is to wash it out fully but this takes about 15 mins and If your using several colours becomes very time consuming.
Another option is to take the roller sleeve off the roller frame and place it fully in the tub of paint which again is very messy. As a decorator of 20 years none of the above are good or easy soloutions.
Statement of invention PAiNT ROLLER SLEEVE STORAGE TUBE To solve this problem the roller sleeve storage tube stores the roller inside with very little if any mess at all and keeps it wet and ready for use when required.
Mvantages PPJIff ROLLER SLEEVE STORAGE luBE The rofler sleeve storage tube will save time and mess and also provides a good storage container for not only wet but also dry roller sleeves and does not take up any more room than the roller itself keeping it dust free etc.
Detailed description PJJNT ROLLER STORAGE lUBE
Please refere to drawing no 1.(PAGE6) The tube as shown in drawing number one is used to store a wet paint roller sleeve.
It saves you having to wash the paint out of the sleeve dunng the said lime which could be days weeks or even months depending on type of work and prevents the paint drng out on the sleeve.
I will now refere to various drawings and explain each one.
Drawing no 1.
Item no 1-This is a hollow tube made of plastic with a solid base and open top. It will be of a textured finish and will have the given name raised In the plastic and this will be of a smooth finish. The tube will also have a lip at the bottom to which the cap (item no 3) will diponto.Therewillalso beasection atthe baseofthetubewhich will haveanumber of colours either printed directly to the tube or will be a sticker fitted. This section is covered by the cap. The tube also has a screw down air tight lid (Item no 2).
Item no 3-This bottom cap fits on to the tube by way of a rim on the inside that clips on to theliponthetube.Thecapalsofeaturesasmallhole(jtem no5)wtthtwoarrowsraised in the plastic on either side of it This cap may need to have some sort of dick or grip system to keep it in the required position if it will not stay in place using the rim fit alone.
The purpose of this cap Is to show the user what colour the paint on the sleeve Inside the tube is without having to open the tube. Through the hole in the cap you can see the various colours behind it so if the colour paint you are using is blue you would rotate the cap till blue Is shown in the window and leave It In this position.
How it works-When you have finished your coat of paint and need to store your roller sleeve till the next time you are going to use it; take the following easy steps Please refere to drawing no a (PAGE 7) Step 1-Roll the sleeve in your paint tray making sure it is well covered in paint Step 2-Place the sleeve into a carrier bag as shown in fig 1 drawing 2.
Step 3-While holding the sleeve pull the roller frame out fully leaving the sleeve in the bag as shown in fIg 2 drawing 2.
Step 4= Squeeze the bag around the sleeve in an upward motion pushing any air out of the bag and tuck the remains of the bag into the open top of the sleeve as shown in fig 3 drawing a Step 5= Place the sleeve in the tube and select the colour.
Detailed desciiption PAJNIF ROLLER STORAGE TUBE I have been using this easy system in my work as a decorator for over a year using tubes of the same type as shown in drawing no 1. I cannot say exactly how long the tube keeps the paint on the sleeve wet but i have left some for 6 weeks for sure and they have remained wet. I am cunently in the procces of doing a proper time test to test how long the tube keeps the roller sleeve wet This testing consists of six roller sleeves all placed in six tubes in the same way explained in steps one to five on page one. These six tubes have been handed to a solicitor and left in his possesion. They have all been marked with the date they were placed in the tube and also marked open in one month, two months etc. I will visit him once a month over the six month period and open each tube one by one and record each result of the test in his presence. This will establish how long u can leave a roller sleeve in the tube before it dries out The results of the test will be confirmed by the solicitor in writing and signed by him.
