Abstract

A fully adjustable universal travel harness which is able to fix onto seats /backrests of most forms of transport to include cars, vans, lorries, buses, mini buses, coaches, trains and aeroplanes, to give security of safer transportation of adults and children. The harness is fully adjustable 6 to accommodate both adults and children. The harness is easily fitted slipping belt 1 horizontally over your chosen seat / backrest, then belt 2 sits vertically over the top of the seat with belt 3 being placed between the seat base and the backrest of the seat, the harness is then brought upwards vertically to be secured using the male components of buckle 4 and the female components of buckle 5. The harness can now be secured and tightened using the integral one pull harness point 7. The height of the harness is now adjusted using the adjuster 6. The travel harness can be stored or transported in any small bag or carry case.

Description

Page 1 Portable Travel Harness
Field of invention
This invention relates to travel harnesses or travel restraints, in particular the invention relates to a portable travel harness.
Background of the invention
Many fixed travel harnesses or belts are widely used in all forms of transport to include lap belts, 3 point car style seat belts and child seats.
When transporting children or adults with special needs we currently rely on the operator of the chosen transport to supply a form of restraint or appropriate safety belts, these are not always the best option for the child/adult, especially if the child is likely to sleep on the journey.
When travelling in cars, vans or Lorries there may be a 3 point seat belt available with no booster style seat, this is proven to be an unsafe way to restrain a child whilst travelling.
Other forms of transport to include buses, coaches, minibuses and aeroplanes currently rely on lap belts to restrain and maintain the Childs position in the seat.
This invention is designed to overcome this problem whilst considering safety regulations; the invention of the portable travel harness offers the flexibility and security of safer transportation.
The portable 4/5 point travel harness which is fully adjustable with its integral one pull harness enables you to fit to most forms of transport with or without fixed seat belts includes cars, vans, Lorries, minibuses, coaches, trains and aeroplanes.
The design of the belt has been developed with regulations, new laws, safety and comfort in mind and includes a quick release buckle, height adjustable headrest, chest and buckle pads, removable crotch belt adjuster which enables belt 3 to be used as the 5th point of the harness.
The harness is fully adjustable to enable you to use alongside booster style seats or simply on its own. The harness is able to adjust to your chosen height with the lower height adjuster 8.
The travel harness will be built with seat belt style materials and car seat style buckles and accessories.
Page 2 The travel harness is a safety restraint without the need to place a seat onto a seat.
The travel harness gives parents and carers as well as transport operators the option to give safer and more secure travel.
The travel harness is fully portable to enable you to move and fit to seats in various forms of transport.
The travel harness can be stored or transported in its own small bag or carry case.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows the portable travel harness prior to fitting Figure 2 shows the portable travel harness during fitting Figure 3 shows the back view of the portable travel harness when fitted Figure 4 shows the front view of the portable travel harness when fitted Figure 5 shows how to secure the travel harness to your chosen seat Figure 6 shows the harness with the removable crotch adjuster Referring to figure 1 this shows the harness prior to fitting.
When fitting the portable travel harness firstly you will slip belt 1 horizontally over the back rest of the chosen seat then belt 2 will fit vertically over the top of the backrest of the chosen seat, belt 3 will then be slipped vertically between the seat and the back rest.
Referring to figure 2 this shows the harness during fitting.
Belt 3 will then be brought upwards vertically to meet vertically with belt 2, to secure the belt to your chosen seat.
Referring to figure 3 this shows the fixed harness via the back view of the seat.
The male component of buckle 4 of belt 3 can then be securely placed into the female component of buckle 5 of belt 2.
Page 3 The harness can then be secured or tightened on the adjuster 6 of belt 1, to then secure the harness to the child or adult by the integral one pull harness point 7.
To adjust the height of where the belt I sits vertically on the child/adult the height can be adjusted using the lower height adjuster 8.
The belt is secured vertically and horizontally at the front of the child/adult using the quick release buckle 9.
Referring to figure 4 this shows the front view of the fixed harness.
The height adjuster is able to move up and down to your chosen height using the clips 10 attached to the headrest 11.
The chest pads 12 can be slipped up and down to your chosen height.
Referring to figures 3, 4 and 5 The harness is threaded through strong brackets 13 to make and enable the harness 1, 2 and 3 to integral.
Referring to figure 6 this shows the harness with the removable crouch adjuster which enables you to use belt 3 as the 5th point of the harness.
The crouch adjuster 14 is easily fitted by slipping the crouch pad 14 up through belt 3 then fix into place with clips lOb to secure the crouch adjuster 14 to your chosen height.
Belt 3 will then be slipped between the seat and the backrest then bring belt 3 up the backrest to meet with belt 2. Secure into place using the male component of buckle 4 of belt 3 and female buckle component 5 of belt 2.
The harness can then be lightened on the adjuster 6 of belt I and then secure the harness to the child or adult by the integral one pull harness point 7.
To adjust the height of where the belt I sits on the child or adult the height can be adjusted using the lower height adjuster 8.
