Abstract

A window handle 2 comprises a sliding locking switch which can be operated by a sliding switch operating device (18c) that comprises a pin (18). The sliding switch operating device (18c) is releasably engagable by an adapter (18d). The pin may be extracted out of and inserted into the sliding locking switch (11A) using the adapter (18d), which is affixed to a remote reaching device. This construction enables the handle to be locked or unlocked from a distance or unreachable height by applying the adapter (18d) using the remote window reaching device, and is designed for use by able-bodied, elderly and less-abled persons. The adapter(18d) may include connecting lugs (L1, L2) to engage the sliding switch (18c).

Description

A SLIDING SWITCH BUTTON AND ADAPTER FOR AN AUTOMATIC
LOCKING WINDOW FASTENER WITH PIN KEY SECURITY
This invention relates to an Adapter and sliding switch Pin Key Button for use with an Automatic Locking Window Handle Fastener which is the subject of Patent Application GB 0621417.5 Window fasteners at high level or out of reach can become a problem especially so if they are of an automatic locking type and need to have a facility for depressing push buttons. The Window Fastener Handle as described in the above application does much to mitigate the problems associated with releasing high level or out of reach fasteners by incorporating a compression release bar to be used with an already patented and marketed product known as THE WINDOW PULL (Patent 2256392B).
The combination of the new innovative window fastener as described in patent application GB 0621417.5 and THE WINDOW PULL does much to alleviate the problems of reaching and operating automatic locking handles situated at high or out of reach level. Automatic locking security can be easily achieved with these two items being employed as a system.
In Application GB 0621417.5 the Window Fastener has an automatic locking means and a secondary dead locking facility. A Sliding Switch (I 1A) can be moved to the deadlocked' position under the Automatic Locking Pin (4). At which point the Button Pin Key (18, 18a) can be removed for additional security. In this position and without the Pin Key Pin' (18), access to the Sliding Switch is deterred. Only by replacing the Pin Key Pin' (18) into the Sliding Switch means (I IA) can the Window Fastener become un-deadlocked' as it were.
This is fine for fastening handles that are at reachable level but where window are at out of reach' level deadlocking by extracting and then reinserting the Pin Key Pin' (18) via the Button can be a problem even though the automatic locking facility is still operable at this height using THE WINDOW PULL.
I
The invention herein described is for a new Pin Key style of design with an Adapter for an independent reaching aid that will allow the Pin Key Button to be both extracted and re-inserted at high or out of reach level and from a safe and secure floor standing position thus making the window fastener and reaching device system more effective on high level window fasteners.
DRAWINGS
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying illustrations.
Figure Al shows the Automatic Locking Window Fastener as detailed in patent application GB 0621417.5. To avoid any confusion when viewing the documents the numbers depicted heren relate to those used in the application GB 0621417.5.
FIGURE Al The Pin Key (18) is fixed into an elongated Button Switch (18b) which preferably incorporates a shallow groove (27) to mate up with a Guidance Strip (26) on the Lever Handle (2) to prevent any rotation of the Button Switch when in situ.
(Fig Al.a) The Pin (18) of the Pin Key switch (18b) is securely inserted into the Sliding Switch (11 A) ready for operation by sliding to and fro. The main drawing shows the sliding switch (hA) in the un-locked or released position whilst figure A l.a shows the Pin Key (18) in position within the Sliding Switch (11 A) which is placed in the dead locked position. Pulling the Pin (18) out at this point with the elongated Button Switch (1 8b) double dead locks the Automatic Locking Pin until the Pin (18) is reinserted whereupon the sliding switch (1 1A) can be moved to the unlocked position as shown in the main illustration.
(Fig Al.b) Again illustrates the Button Switch (1 Sb) but preferably modified to receive an Adapter (18d).
Preferably two grooves (Gi & G2) on opposite sides to each other are made along the top face and bottom face of the Elongated Button Switch (18c).
The Adapter (1 8d) preferably comprises a wrap around section' suitably formed so as to preferably slide on to and off the Button Switch (18c) with connecting lugs (LI & L2) to connect as illustrated in Fig Al.b.
The face (F) of the Adapter (1 8d) is preferably affixed to a remote reaching device typically THE WINDOW PULL as is subject to granted patent 2256392.
In use the Adapter (I 8d) whilst affixed to a reaching device or aid is preferably slid onto the Button Switch (1 Sc) from one end to the middle thereof. When the Adapter (18d) is correctly located extraction of the Button Switch (18c) by pulling the Adapter away from the Fastening Handle (2) using the remote reaching device to which it is affixed, extracts the Pin (18) out of the Sliding Switch (hA) therefore double deadlocking the security means of the fastener.
With the Button Switch (18c) still in place within the Adapter (18d) and still affixed to the remote and independent reaching device, the Button Switch Pin Key Pin' is offered back up to the Fastener Handle (2) and passed through the Sliding Switch Slot (21) into the Sliding Switch means (hA) where it is made secure preferably by the Gripping means (19) within the Sliding Switch (1 1A). The Adapter (18d) is the removed by sliding the Adapter (1 8d) off by manipulation of the remote reaching aid to which it is affixed.
Furthermore, a single Pin' (18) can be, by another method of operation, be affixed directly to a remote reaching device component for direct insertion into the Sliding Switch (1 IA) thus doing away with the Button Switch (18c). Locking and unlocking would preferably then be by direct control of the remote reaching device by Pin' (18) control only. This procedure would mean that there would be no outwardly visible sign of a Sliding Switch Button (1 8c) means at any time.
