Abstract

A bottle sleeve 1 made of paper or card for a necked container such as a bottle 6, 5 comprises a first region 2 which has an aperture 5 for locating around the neck 7 of the container 6, and a second region 3 extending from the first region 2. When placed on the container 6, the second region 3 extends at an angle from the first region 2 and has a location for the provision of, for example, an anniversary greeting.

The present invention relates to a tag, particularly for a necked container such as a bottle.

According to the present invention there is provided a tag for a necked container, comprising a first region having an aperture therein for locating around a neck of a container, and a second region extending from the first region and having thereon a location for the provision of matter of a literary or artistic nature.

The aperture may be either circular or any other suitable configuration such as rectangular, depending on the shape of the neck of the container.

The tag may be made from paper.

The tag may be made from card.

The tag may be laminated.

The tag may comprise means which enable the first region and the second region to extend at an angle to each other.

The means may comprise an indentation to facilitate folding of the first region relative to the second region.

An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:-Figure 1 is a plan view of a tag in its flat position, Figure 2 is a perspective view of the tag illustrated in figure 1 but in a bent position, and Figure 3 shows a bottle with the tag illustrated in figure 2 located over its neck.

Referring to figure 1, there is shown a tag I in the form of an elongate piece of card or paper. The tag 1 is notionally divided into first region 2 and a second region 3 by means of an indentation line 4. The first region 2 is provided with a circular aperture 5 for locating the tag over the neck of a container. The second region 3 carries matter of a literary or artistic nature which will typically be in the form of a greeting but may additionally/alternatively contain advertising for the product in the container or in connection with a promotional offer associated with the product.

Referring to figure 2, there is shown the tag 1 illustrated in figure 1 but which has been bent along the indentation line 4 so that the first region 2 extends perpendicularly downwards with respect to the second region 3.

Figure 3 shows a container in the form of a bottle 6 having a neck region 7.

The tag I in its bent position illustrated in figure 2 is located by its aperture over the neck 7 of the bottle 6. Although, in figure 3.the second region 3 of the tag 1 is inclined downwardly it could be bent about the indentation line 4 so as to incline upwardly. This does not affect the size or shape of the tag 1; what is important is that the advertising matter on the second region always faces outwards.

The tag 1 shown in the drawings has a simple circular aperture 5. However, it is possible for the first region 2 to have radial cuts extending from the aperture 5 into the first region 2. This enables the aperture 5 to be made slightly smaller than the cross-section of the neck 7 of the bottle 6 so that when the aperture 5 is placed over the neck 7, the cuts define radial fingers which lightly grip the neck 7, thereby helping to retain the tag 1 in its correct position on the neck 7.

Although not shown, the tag 1 may comprise strengthening means extending along each side edge region of the first and second regions 2 and 3. These strengthening means may be made by thickening the side edges of the tag 1.

In a preferred embodiment, the literary or artistic matter may comprise a greeting such as an anniversary or new birth greeting. This enables a person who wishes to give a bottle of, for example, wine as a gift to also buy a tag according to the present invention which has written on it an appropriate message for the particular occasion. The person can complete the message with the necessary personal details on a space provided on the reverse of the tag, bend the tag about its indentation and insert it over the neck of the bottle.

The first and second regions 2 and 3 may be the same size and symmetrical about the indentation line 4. Alternatively, as shown in the drawings, the second region 3 may be larger than the first region 2 so that it can lie across a substantial part of the bottle and acconimodate a detailed message or design. For example the second region may comprise a number signifying a particular birthday or a design such as a bow which may be co-planar and integral with the second region 3 or raised or protruding from it.

1. Claims 1. A tag for a necked container, comprising a first region

   having an aperture therein for locating around a neck of a container, and a second region extending from the first region and having thereon a location for the provision of matter of a literary or artistic nature.
2. 2. A tag as claimed in claim 1, wherein the aperture is circular.
3. 3. A tag as claimed in claim I, wherein the aperture is elliptical.
4. 4. A tag as claimed in claim I, wherein the aperture is rectangular
5. 5. The tag as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, made from paper.
6. 6. The tag as claimed in any one of claims I to 4, made from card.
7. 7. A tag as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in the form of a laminate.
8. 8. A tag as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, comprising means which enable the first region and the second region to extend at an angle to each other.
9. 9. A tag as claimed in claim 8, wherein the means comprises an indentation to facilitate folding of the first region relative to the second region.
10. 10. A tag as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein radial cuts extend from the aperture into the first region.
11. 11. A tag substandally as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
