Abstract

The board is angled down toward the user both from the opposite end of a resting plate to the resting plate and from the side furthest from the user to the user side. The board presents an item being ironed at an angle facing slightly toward the user allowing gravity to assist in the ironing process. The board may be an attachment to an existing ironing board by straps and/or clips. Alternatively the board may be available already attached to a conventional ironing board base.

Description

_____ 2442231 3D Ironing Board (3-DIB') This innovation relates to a
device for enabling imning to be conducted in a more efficient and anatomically friendly manner.
When ironing, the user employs a variety of muscles and joints to traverse the board with the iron. This invention enables this to be achieved in a more efficient manner with less stress upon the body.
The use of conventional ironing boards results in the user adopting a slightly unnatural posture which, to those who experience back pain, can also result in the aggravation of this condition. In addition to this, the design of all irons in current use result in a not inconsiderable amount of effort on the draw down and the draw back phase of the ironing process. This is because the rear and side sections of the iron plate are wide, whereas the forward section is manufactured to a point. Both of these observations are addressed by this invention.
The 3-DIB relies upon gravity to assist in both the draw back and draw down phase of ironing (ie all stages of ironing where pull or drag is exerted by the user). The forward push of the iron is already as well compensated for as can be by the iron design and the additional slightly upward push to achieve the height for gravitational benefit in the later process is therefore conducted drawing upon the existing attributes of the iron.
The 3-DIB differs from conventional ironing boards in that it is not a flat surface nor is it simply at an angle sloping toward the user. The new board slopes down toward the user at degrees which will be variable at point of purchase to meet their preference. Importantly though It also slopes back down toward the user from the foremost point of the board toward the back plate.
The new 3-DIB also allows the user to adopt a more anatomically friendly posture.
The board presents the item being ironed at an angle facing slightly toward the user, this removes the need for the individual to lean over the board as they currently do.
It is the board itself which is innovative and the intention is that it will be available both on its own, to allow it to be fitted very simply to current boards with straps and/or clips, it will also be available already attached to a conventional ironing board base. Only the single board (unattached to a conventional base) is described in the drawings.
Figure 1 Shows the board viewed from the user's side.
Figure 2 Shows the board viewed from the front (opposite end from rest plate) Figure 3 Shows the board viewed from the rear (same end as rest plate) Figure 4 Shows the board viewed from the top with simple arrows depicting general upwards sweeps.
It has not been possible to show the 3D-lB on a one dimensional drawing.
Graphically enhanced models will be provided when the innovation is registered.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims An Ironing Board unit comprising a board which is angled down
toward the user both opposite end from resting plate to resting plate and side furthest from user to user side. This provides a more effective surface upon which to iron than boards currently available. The board is also unique, in its initial design, in being available as an attachment to an existing ironing board by simple velcro straps thereby providing innovation without the need for disposal of otherwise fully operational items. The innovation is also available manufactured with a conventional ironing board support design.
