Abstract

The invention entails a device which produces electric power using water that has been wasted by a sewage plant on a hill top and which is running down towards a river. Preferably, the wasted water is collected in an artificial basin, and then supplied to power generating units. Ideally, the power generating units have pistons which operate within cylinders. Water fills the cylinders and the hydrostatic head drives the pistons downwards. Valves shut off the supply of water once the piston nears the bottom. Once at the bottom, the valves associated with the piston discharge the water ballast from the cylinder. The pistons drive a crankshaft via con-rods. Several water powered units may be used in succession to produce electricity.

Description

I 2442047 WATER POWERED ENGINE 19/06/2006 This Idea relates to an
engine powered by water.
This engine is made up of a minimum of two, to a multiple of pistons.
Essentially it's structure is like a normal petrol engine, it differs that the pistons rather that be pushed down by the expansion of gases they actually fill up with water which is set at a higher level the water acts as ballast an push the pistons down.
When the pistons are approx. 75% of the downward distance a valve at the top which fill the pistons will shut stopping the flooding of the pistons.
Having reached the bottom most point the bottom of the piston which in effect is a valve will open allowing the water to escape into a channel where this in turn will power another unit. This process can be applied over and over again to power an infinite numbers of these units just as long as there is long enough slope for the overflow to take place.
Having reached the bottom and released the load the other piston will have reached it's most top point the bottom valve will have shut, the inlet valve situated near the top of the cylinder will open and fill up the piston this cycle will repeat it's self indefinitely.
With the piston being attached by means of a con-rod to the crankshaft the motion is turned into a revolving cycle this in turn coupled up to a step-up gearbox to multiply the amount of revolutions to drive an electric generator.
Referring to the drawing it can be observed that these units set up in line on downward slope can create a great amount of energy.
Main drawing shows a unit made up of three cylinders and the pistons set in relation to each other at an angle of 120 degrees Fig. I shows the complete unit " " 2 " thecrankshaft "" 3 " the con-rods 4 " thepistons The efficiency of this power unit will depend on it's size the bigger it is, the more load it can take thus overcoming all eventual drag caused by the compression rings.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIM
The Idea of this invention/project is to produce electric power with a minimum amount of water especially where water is being wasted by sewage plants and returned to the rivers.
Where this takes place at hill top villages before the water reaches the river it can power the device in question and then it still can be returned to the river.
    Refer to the drawing.
