Abstract
A template comprises two parallel gauge block rails 7, 8, located between two pairs of slide rails, 5, 6, 9, 10 to form an oblong shape suitable for routing a hole in a door for a letter box. Screw clamps may be provided to enable the dimensions of the hole to be slidably adjusted. Gauge blocks 16, 17, 18 may be provided for selecting a height of the hole for the letter box, so that the rails remain parallel. Clamp straps 1, 2 may be provided that attach to the template, and which may be held in place on the door using conventional carpenter's clamps.

DESCRIPTION:
LETTER-BOX TEMPLATE -
This invention relates to a box shaped device which forms an adjustable template through which, via the space created within the bounds of its frame, an aperture may be routed through a door in order to accommodate the desired sized letter box unit
It consists of two solid vertical parallel bare which each house three gauge blocks and the upper/ lower bottom and top parallel horizontal slide rails.
The size of tile aperture to be routed can be pre determined by setting the letter-box template to the required size via its adjustable mechanism, by first of all slackening back on the slider clamp bolts which require an alien key to loosen the relative retaining slider clamp bolt to allow flexible horizontal movement along the horizontal slide rails in order to determine the required measurement on that plane, and secondly to adjust for height by insetting all three sets of fixed size gauge blocks into die left and right hand gauge block tails thus resulting in the maximum height, or alternatively any permutation of matching pairs of coloured gauge blocks as befits the aperture size required. Having determined die size of aperture required and having set the letter box template to feat requirement, tighten up on the two slider clamp bolts to retain the outline of die proposed letter box aperture shape.
In order for the letter-box template to be firmly positioned to a door it is necessary to attach die left and right hand clamp straps to the main frame of the tetter box template at the positions named clamp connecting plate, and then tighten up on die thumb screws so that the clamp straps are firmly held in position on the letterbox template. Having decided where to position the letter box on the door it is then necessary to firmly retain the letterbox template in the desired position, so normal carpenter clamps can be used to pinch together the clamp straps and the door so that a firm position is established prior to routing the aperture through the door.
The main frame of the letter-box template is made of aluminium, with its six gauge blocks being made of plastic.
A preferred embodiment of this invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings:
Drawing 1/2 an EXPLODED ASSEMBLY VIEW - showing all the different parts that are necessary to assemble this invention, duly numbered 1 to 18;
Drawing 2/2 a SIDE ELEVATION - a side view of die whole letter-box template when fully assembled;
Drawing 3/3 a TOP & BOTTOM ELEVATION-atop and bottom view of the fully assembled letter-box template, showing die channel for the gauge block rails to travel when adjustment is required.
5
The Idler box template consists of forty four separate parts which are made up as follows:
One left hand damp strap (1); one right hand clamp strap (2); two thumb screws (3); two clamp connecting plates (4); one top slide rail (5); one upper top horizontal slide rail (6); one bottom horizontal slide rail (7); one left hand gauge block rail (8), one right hand gauge block rail (9); (me lower top horizontal slide rail: (10) lower bottom horizontal slide rail; (11) two support pillars (12); ten CSK screws (13); two slider clamp talis (14); two sliding clamps; (15); ten bail spring plungers; (16) two red gauge btd&s; (17) two blue gauge blocks, (18) and finally two green gauge blocks.
When all the parts listed are assembled, an adjustable template is formed which can be ciamped to any size door requiring a letter box aperture to be cut.
Drawing 1/3 an EXPLODED ASSEMBLY VIEW showing all die parts with the appropriate reference number accompanies this "ABSTRACT*.
Claims (6)
1. a letter-box template consists of two parallel gauge block rails set apart and set between a pair of upper horizontal slide rails which are themselves parallel to a pair of lower horizontal slide rails, thus forming an oblong shaped device which then can define an area to be drilled out through a door in conjunction with housing a letter box unit;
2. in order for the letter box template as per claim 1 to be set for the size required it is necessary for the frame to have flexible movement which is achieved by first of all slackening back on the two slider clamp bolts until free horizontal and vertical movement is achieved;
3. the letter-box template as per Claim 1 can be adjusted for vertical height by inserting all or any combination of the same sized gauge blocks into the appropriate left and right hand gauge block rails in order to make the horizontal slide rails parallel;
4. the letter box template as per claim 1 can be adjusted for horizontal width by sliding the two gauge block rails on the horizontal plane between the upper and lower horizontal slide rails;
5/ once die letter box template as per the requirements of Claim 3 and 4 have established the desired size, then in order to retain the shape it is necessary to tighten up on the two slider clamp bolts;
6. letter box template as per claim I having two clamp straps which are housed into a clamp connecting plate and made fast by tightening up with thumb screws.
drawing 1/3 an EXPLODED ASSEMBLY VIEW with the appropriate reference numbers accompanies this "ABSTRACT".
6. the letter box template as per claim 1 has two clamp straps which are housed into die clamp connecting plate and made fast by tightening up on the thumb screws.
drawing 1/3 an EXPLODED ASSEMBLY VIEW with the appropriate reference numbers accompanies this "ABSTRACT".
