Abstract

In contrast to the usual arrangement, bifocal, multifocal or varifocal spectacles have a lens arrangement with a short distance or reading vision area at the top and an interchangeable bridge or mechanical device to raise or lower the spectacles on the face for safer, trip free, wear.

Description

TiTLE: -TRIP SAFE BI, VARI AND MULTI FOCAL SPECTACLES

DESCRIPTION

Bifocal spectacle lenses and Varifocals are normally fitted to the lower half of spectacle lenses introducing a disadvantage by creating an area of confusion in the lower visual field; statistics on one hundred patients revealed that over 85% of patients interviewed either tripped or had a fall due to placing the close up element in this position, in some cases the fall was serious. The following invention introduces a system to obviate this problem.

By fitting powered segments or Varifocals In the upper area (Figures 1 and 2) the lower visual field is clear for trip-safe walking and the upper segment is utilised for close work.

The inclusion of an interchangeable bridge piece, raised the spectades, the vertical visual field Increased, providing increased distant viewing facility for driving and certain sports pursuits, the interchangeable bridge is removed for reading, computing and other close work.

Interthangeable bridge pieces are constructed in hard or soft plastic and are slipped under the bridge of the spectacles for greater distant viewing or easily removed for close work.

Soft plastic interchangeable bridge pieces take up the shape of the wearers bridge nose contours; hard plastic interchangeable bridge pieces are available in standard fittings or an impression of the bridge can be made using moulding material preparing a stone cast and an individual bridge piece formed there from by pressing the plastic against the cast under heat. Appropriate gloves are useful In this context.

Ease of reading increases on removal of the bridge piece, further Improved by raising the side pieces and tilting spectacles.

In another embodiment the spectacles can be raised by a swivel and notth, slide arrangement to open or close the bridge so that the centre of the lens system is lowered or raised, in the lower position for improved reading; in the raised portion for better distant viewing.

Attached out facing studs to open and close pads is an added sophistication.

In a further embodiment an angled swivel arrangement at the joint enables lens tilting Inwards for reading and outwards for distant viewing, this is also arranged with a swivel and notch arrangement so that the tilt is fixed in the desired position.

Additional benefits of the trip-safe system provide patient with improved computer vision, increased ability to see prices in supermarkets, greater ease for reading, better inspection for professional personage, since bending is minimised, improved posture, looking the world straight in the eye, and greater visual confidence.

Claims (1)

 1.
CLAIMS

It is claimed that ptadng reading portion of a bifocal, multifocals or Varifocals in the upper part of a lens in conjunction with a detachable device, a slide arrangement or a swivel arrangement to raise and lower the spectacle frame on the face prevent danger of tripping, slipping or dizziness which might result in a fall, thus giving a trip free commodity.
