Abstract

Moulds; processes.-Slabs or blocks are formed of concrete &c. faced on one or more sides with a layer of paper, cloth, or other fibrous material. The slabs are formed by lining a mould with the fabric and casting the concrete thereon. For plain blocks, the fabric overlaps the ends, as shown in Fig. 2. The blocks &c. may be strengthened at the edges by wooden ribs, Fig. 3, around which the fabric is secured before the casting operation. Fig. 1 shows a mould comprising partitions 3 spaced apart, between sides 2, by a notched bar 4 at the top and spacing-members 5 at the bottom. The lower ribs 8 are forced against the partitions 3 by wedges 11, 12 and the upper ribs 7 are secured in position by spring clamps 10. In place of the members 5, the partitions 3 may be positioned by spaced recesses in the floor. The ribs 7, 8 may be anchored to the concrete, by long bent nails 9 which may support a rainforcement 13.
