Abstract
A portable vacuum dust collector 1 with an adjustable column 3 located within the base unit 1 that can be extended from the base unit and supported at any desired height. The vertical column is used to attract the dust particles down the column to be collected within the base unit. A handle 4 may be provided and the column may be locked into position at any desired height and may include a series of tapered tubes sited within each other. Dust particles may be attracted to the top of column as well as to 360 degrees along the full length of the column that has been exposed fro the base unit. The dust may be attracted through the vacuumed column by way of a suitably selected flexible material to allow dust particles only to pass through, or a series of efficiently sited apertures along the column.
Description

Dust collector This invention relates to a device for coHecting
airborne dust particles.

When dust is produced within the home, particularly when work or renovation is being carried out, from major items such as walls being taken down or knock thro's to simple DIV tasks carried out within the home, a large quantity of dust is produced. The produced dust, due to being airborne will not isolate itself only to that location but will contaminate the majority of the house as anybody who has had builders in their home undertaking works can verify. The opening of windows in the vicinity of where the work is being carried out invariably only goes to assisting the flow of dust around the house. The only solution once this has occurred is to vacuum and dust all the affected areas. To overcome this problem, the present invention proposes a vacuum dust collector utilising a vertical column that can be sited within close proximity to where the work is being carried out to collect the airborne dust that is produced. Preferably the unit will be easily portable with the means of dust extraction from the air being by a retractable column contained within the base unit that when retracted to the required height from the base unit will attract the dust. This may or may not be of adjustable height option depending on requirements.

An example of the invention wilL now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows the portable electrical vacuum base unit according to the invention.

Figure 2 shows the central retractable column and its location to the base unit, according to the invention.

Figure 3 shows the central retractable column petruded from the base unit, according to the invention.

Figure 4 shows the flow and direction of the attracted dust particles to the central column, according to the invention.

Figure 1 shows the portable electrical vacuum base unit I, this may also be of a battery operated I rechargeable battery operated version for where an electrical supply is not readily accessible. It may or my not contain wheels to the base for moving of the unit 2, that may or may not be of the lockable variety. The retractable column is located within the base unit 3, that may or may not have a handle fitted 4 for transportation of the base unit, and easy retraction of the column from the base unit. The base unit may be of any size or shape, but in the illustration is depicted of spherical type. The power supply cable may be located within the base unit 1, by means of a retractable storage method or alternatively externally to the base unit.

Figure 2 shows the column 3 located within the vacuum base unit I, being retracted from the unit vertically 5, by means of the attached handle 4.

Figure 3 shows the column 3, extended from the base unit I. The column is to be of any suitable material to provide the robust performance required once the column has been retracted and in use, and also to be able to be retracted back within the base unit once it is required to be stowed away. The column is to be able to be locked into position at any desired height from the initial extrusion from the base unit to the fully extended height the column may petrude from the base unit which may be of any desired height. One such material may be a form of plastic or polycarbonate that is to be formed into a series of tapered tubes sited within each other that can be locked' into position at the required height by means of interlocking the tubes by means of a simple twisting' of the column to interlock the separate sections. Alternatively the sections could be supported at the desired height by the means of a secondary supporting bracket as described in figure 4 item 6.

Figure 4 shows an alternative method of locating the column at the desired height by the mean of a secondary support 6, that may or may not be able to be retracted from the base to the desired height to support the column. This feature would not only lend itself to the supporting of the type of column as described in figure 3, but would also enable an alternative form of flexible' column 5 to be used that again could be stowed within the base unit 1.

Figure 5 shows the attraction pattern of the dust particles to the central column and into the base unit. The column attracts the dust to the top of the column as well as to 360 degrees along the full length of the column that has been exposed from the vacuum base unit. The dust is attracted through the vacuumed column by way of a suitably selected flexible material to allow dust particles only to pass through, or a series of efficiently sited apertures along the column to allow only dust particles to pass through and provide optimum performance of the unit. The particles collected are to travel from the column down to the base unit where they are to be collected by way of a collection device that can be removed and emptied and/or replaced as and when desired.

Claims (1)
