Abstract

To convert a current conventional bicycle in to a motor and pedal bicycle without having to modify the frame by changing the pedal spindle of a conventional bicycle to the invented spindle mechanism to allow it to use whatever the greater or equal torque pedaling or motor into the gear system of the conventional bicycle. The transmission comprises a sprocket F drivable by the motor. When sprocket F rotates faster than a pedaling input, sprocket F drives a middle hollow spindle (D see fig 3), via a one way bearing G. This causes rotation of chain rings E. Pedaling causes rotation of an extended central spindle (A see fig 1). This is mounted via bearings (B see fig 1) into a standard bottom bracket. When the spindle (A) rotates faster than the sprocket F, it drives the middle hollow spindle (D), via one or more one way bearings (C see fig 2). Grooves prevent slippage of the bearings (C, G) relative to other rotating pads (D, F).

Description

Pages 2440132 Invention In the market of motor and pedal powered
bicycles, the concept of using a multi pedalling spindle that fixes to the current conventional bicycle which allows it to be motor driven has never been used.

This system uses what ever the greater torque motor or pedalling in to a multi pedalling spindle, jointly or separately, to drive the existing gear system.

A specific embodiment of the invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the centre spindle (A) with bearings (B) fitted Figure 2 shows the centre spindle (A) with bearings (B) fitted and a one way bearing (C) fitted.

Figure 3 shows the middle hallow spindle (0) fitted on to the one way bearings (C), Figure 4 shows E the cogwheels fitted to the middle spindle, E the cogwheets will drive the main object, F the cogwheel is fitted to a one way bearing (G) which is fitted to the middle hallow spindle (D). Page

Bicycle twin spindle operates as follows: The main objective is to use a current conventional bicycle and convert it to a motor and pedal bicycle with out having to modify too much, in this invention by changing the pedal spindle of a conventional bicycle to the invented spindle mechanism it will allow the mass population to use a more cost effective motor and pedal vehicle.

This invention will allow both energies to power the gears simultaneously or independently without loss of energy.

Figures 1 to 4 are illustrative of how this mechanism works.

In figure 1 (A) is a spindle and has the 2 pedal arms (x) connected.

On the (A) spindle there will beanngs (B) like many conventional bicycles already have but with an extended spindle (A). On one side of the spindle (A) there will be one or more one-way bearings (C) fitted like in figure 2. The (A) spindle and the inner of the one-way bearing (C) will have groves to stop slipping, (C) the one-way bearing will connect to (D) the middle hollow spindle.

In the inside of the hollow spindle (0) and the outside of the one-way bearing (C) there will be groves to prevent slipping.

(D) Is the middle hollow spindle which gives out the greater torque to drive the chain eventually the wheel.

On the hollow spindle (D) there will be a one-way bearing (G) fixed which will have a cogwheel (F) fitted on to the one way bearing.

On the inner side of the one-way bearing (G) and the outer side of the hollow spindle (0) will have groves to prevent slipping also the outer side of the one way bearing (G) and the inner side of the cogwheel (F) will have groves to prevent slipping.

(F) the cogwheel will be driven from a motor. When the motor is not turning or slower than the spindle (0) it will just free wheel.

On the hollow spindle (D) there is cogwheels (E) this is where the torque will be transmitted out.

Cogwheels (E) will be fixed to (0) the hollow spindle.

The two powers will come from peddling or the motor and it will go through the middle hollow spindle then to the gear system of the bicycle. The middle hollow spindle will be powered by what ever the greater torque or an equal torque.

Claims (1)

  1.
I Pag, Claims 2 1. A spindle mechanism substantially as described
herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which will be fitted on to a existing bicycle hub with a longer middle spindle to accompany this mechanism like in figure 4.

2. A mechanism which has a centre spindle (A) like figure 2 and has on it one or more one way bearings (C) like figure 2 on one side of the extended spindle, then on the one way bearings (C) a middle hollow spindle like figure 3 fitted on to the one way bearing (C), then on to one side of the hollow spindle there will be a one way bearing (G) and on it a cogwheel (F) fitted like figure 4, then on the other side there will be one or more cogwheels (E)fitted to the hallow spindle like figure 4.
