Abstract

An adjustable bracket for hanging paintings of the wrap-around canvas type has an L-shaped outer casing which is hollow to allow a block to slide within it. The flange of the L-shaped outer casing supports the inside chamfered edge of the canvas stretcher. A screw is permanently fixed to the block, with a spacing lug provided at the base of the screw. The screw may be screwed into a rawlplug by hand, with the spacing lug preventing the edge of the block from damaging the wall. A grub screw is provided to lock the block to the outer casing once the parts have been adjusted to accommodate the thicknesses of the canvas stretcher. According to the size of the painting, one or two brackets may be required. Levelling of the painting is achieved by rotating the bracket(s).

Description

<p>SUPPORTS FOR SQUARI-EDGED WRAP-AROUND CANVASES</p>

<p>This device is a new type of picture-frame support suitable only for chamfered-edged wap-around canvases.</p>

<p>Generally the supports available are inadequate to hang paintings which are on square-edged canvases. At present There are no suitable lianging systems and in-appropriate wall mounting can be disasterous to expensive paintings.</p>

<p>The hanging device takes the form of an adjustable bracket, which has a built-in screw. This does not require the use of a screw-driver as hand-turning the device only is suitable. According to the size of the painting, one or two brackets may be required.</p>

<p>Advantages: I.. Adjustable depth for different thickness of canvas stretcher 2. Security from a flange, which supports the inside chamfered edge of the stretcher.</p>

<p>3. Levelling of the painting is achieved by rotating the bracket(s).</p>

1. <p>CLAIMS: As shown in figure 1 of the drawing. Adjustable bracket for

   hanging paintings. The bracket is in two main parts i.e.: The inner part is a block to which a screw is permanently fixed and has a spacing lug at the base of the screw which prevents the edge of the block from damaging the wall as it screwed into a rawiplug.</p>

   <p>The outer casing is L-shaped and hollow to provide a sliding adjustment on the inner part. After adjustment to accommodate the thickness of the canvas stretcher, the outer part is locked to the inner part by use of the in-built grubscrew on the underside of the outer casing.</p>
