Abstract

A writing instrument having a mechanism or device fitted on the end which releases a flavour e.g. strawberry, lemon, banana or orange when it is placed in a uses mouth. Preferably the lid is also flavoured. The flavour may be provided by a sweet like capsule inserted on the end of the pen or discreetly under the lid and may last as long as the ink in the instrument. The inclusion of a flavoured capsule may apply to all writing instruments except wooden pencils.

<p>DESCRIPTION</p>

<p>Flavour-Tipped Writing Instruments This invention relates to writing instruments, and will be of interest not only to individuals but also to corporate organisations and educational institutions.</p>

<p>Whilst working, individuals often put the writing instrument in their mouths without realising. Ordinarily, all that the person would taste would be plastic, which of course is flavourless. 1-lowever, my invention would hope to change this by introducing instruments where the end is flavoured, so when it is put in someone's mouth, rather than the bland taste of plastic (or metal, in some cases), the user is welcomed with refreshing flavours such as strawberry and lemon.</p>

<p>With regards to exactly how the product will work, this is illustrated in the accompanying Figures. It is hoped that a flavour-releasing mechanism or device will be fitted into the top-end of the instrument (as shown in Figure I), and that it's reaction with saliva will cause the tastes to be released -in effect, it will almost be like sucking on a sweet.</p>

<p>Figure 2 shows where the actual lid of the instrument is also flavoured (the design of lid shown is only an example). As with the design shown in Figure 1, a flavoured mechanism or device will be incorporated into the instrument, but this time in the lid itself.</p>

<p>This invention will be compatible with writing instruments of all types (with the exception of wooden pencils). The full list of what I hope to include is included in the Claims section of my application. Where the writing instrument has a lid, the invention will apply to the both the lid and the end of the instrument. The reason for this is that people may lose their lids, or may not always fix them to the end of their instruments. As such, if the flavoured mechanism or device (such as a capsule or sweet-like object) is inserted in the lid only, people would always have to ensure they kept or used their lids, for the product to have maximum benefit.</p>

Claims (1)

1. <p>CLAIMS</p>

   <p>Flavour-Tipped Writing Instruments 1. A writing instrument comprising an end fitted with a mechanism or device that is flavoured, so when it is put in someone's mouth, rather than having no taste, the user experiences subtle tastes of one of many popular flavours, to include -strawberry, lemon, banana, orange.</p>

   <p>2. A writing instrument in accordance with Claim, where the lid is also flavoured.</p>

   <p>3. A writing instrument in accordance with Claims I and 2, in which the flavour is provided by a capsule inserted either at the end of the pen, or discretely under the lid, whichever is appropriate.</p>

   <p>4. A writing instrument in accordance with Claims 1 and 2, but applicable to non-pencil products, in which the mechanism by which the flavour is incorporated into the instrument (be it a capsule or otherwise) is designed to last as long as the ink in the instrument itself.</p>

   <p>5. The writing instruments referred to in the above Claims include -pens (of all colours and types e.g. click-top pens, cartridge pens), refillable pencils, highlighters (of all colours), permanent markers (of all colours), and any other form of instrument capable of holding a device allowing flavour to be released from it.</p>
