Abstract

A shaped cleaning cover, made of absorbent material, fits over a brush head, allowing the brush to used as a mop or floor cleaner. The cover is formed from a rectangular piece of material folded to form a base 1. The sides 2 are joined by stitching, as are the shoulders 3. The cover has an elasticated opening 4. The cover may have protrusions from the base (5, figure 4). The cover may be removed for cleaning or disposal.

Description

SHAPED COVER THAT FITS OVER A BRUSH HEAD

DESCRIPTION

The invention is a shaped cover, with an elasticated opening, that fits over a brush head and is used for cleaning floors I have found from my experience of mopping floors that mops are not particularly durable, can be messy, require storage space and add clutter to the kitchen. They also fail to get into corners and their wetness can sometimes damage the base of kitchen units. They often do not clean floors effectively because of the limited force that can be applied to the mop and the smoothness of the surface of the mop. Although there have been a few instances where floor cloths attached to brushes have been patented, the design of the cloths and attachments have been complex, for example requiring a unit to attach the cloth to the brush, or fastenings with studs which can be awkward to fasten especially when wet, or can cause damage to the cloth when pressunsed while mopping I brushing My invention is a cover that fits over the head of a long handled brush of the type normally used to sweep kitchen floors. When the head of the brush is inserted into a dampened (or wet) cover, the brush and cover function as a floor mop. The brush's bristles assists access to corners and edges. When the brush is turned 180 degrees the head of the brush presses on the cover so that adequate force can be applied to clean dirty parts of the floor. The cover can be dampened / wet as required so that it is not overloaded with water, this would avoid damage to the bases of kitchen units. The invention is space efficient because instead of a customer storing a brush and a mop, he/she would only need to store a brush and the covers.

Covers could be reusable, using material that can be washed, or disposable. Material for disposable covers can be dry or moist.

Preferred embodiments of the inventions will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in Figure 1.

Figure 1 shows a bag / pouch style cover. A rectangular piece of material is folded in the middle to make a base (1). The sides (2) are joined by stitching, and the shoulders (3) are joined by stitching. An opening, the neck (4), is elasticated, and is large enough for the brush head to easily be inserted into, and removed from, the cover and small and tight enough so that the cover does not fall off the brush head or be too slack. The cover provides sufficient room to allow adequate movement of the bush bristles. As there are many sizes of brushes covers would be in varying sizes. Figure 2 shows the shoulders and neck and Figure 3 shows the cover covering the brush head.

There could be vanations in the style of cover. For example, instead of one piece of material that is folded there may be more than one piece of cloth forming the cover. The piece of material could be shaped along the sides to follow the contours of the brush head.

Another example of a variation is a box style cover which includes panels along the base, sides and shoulders so that the cover takes the form of a box with an opening. The sides could be straight or tapered to follow the contours of the brush head. The cover may have a tab to assist its removal from the brush The cover may have protrusions from the base such as shown in (5) in Figure 4.

To use the invention, the cover is moistened and the brush is inserted into the cover. The cover is removed for washing or disposal
