Abstract

A portable personal ashtray has a moulded plastic dome-shaped body 1 with an upper opening closable by means of a hinged lid 9. The lid 9 makes a water and airtight seal with the body 1 and has a smaller opening, also sealable by means of a hinged lid 2, through which cigarette butts can be inserted. The body 1 can be filled with water to a set level to provide a means of extinguishing a lighted cigarette. A lower opening in the body of the ashtray is covered with a fine gauze 13 and sealable by means of a hinged lid 11, providing a means to separate the water from the solids by allowing water to be drained from the interior of the ashtray while retaining the solid contents within the body for removal through the upper opening. A clip is provided for attachment of the ashtray to belts and other items.

<p>Background:</p>

<p>This invention relates to a portable personal ashtray.</p>

<p>When people smoke cigarettes and cigars their ash and butts are deposited in conventional ashtrays. However there are many instances when there is no astray available which means that both ash and butts produce unnecessary litter and damage the environment.</p>

<p>Statement of invention:</p>

<p>To overcome this, the present invention proposes a personal, portable astray which safely extinguishes and disposes of the cigarette/cigar.</p>

<p>Advantages: The personal portable ashtray improves the environment -ie: reduces littering.</p>

<p>The potential fire hazard is quickly minimized through the specific design of the personal portable ashtray.</p>

<p>Detailed description:</p>

<p>The container 1 will be made from hard moulded plastic. It will consist of a lid 9 and dome-shaped base 1. The lid 9 will be water-tight and air-tight. Within the lid 9 is a smaller round lid 2 that has a flip-top action 5 attached by a plastic hinge 4.</p>

<p>This enables the user to drop the cigarette/cigar into the container 1.</p>

<p>Then, sealing the flip-top lid 2 back down, this will become water and air tight.</p>

<p>For quick and easy extinguishing, water 7 will be placed in the container 1 to a set level.</p>

<p>The only instruction required to the user will be to extinguish in an upright position (as shown in the diagram).</p>

<p>The lid 9 is water-right and air-tight. This can also be opened by a flip-top action 6 and is held in place by a hinge 3. This enables the user to add water, and then remove ash and butts after the water has been drained through lid 11, which has the same flip-top mechanism as lid 2. This draining lid 11 is water-tight and air tight. The lid 11 contains a flip-top action 12 and a hinge 10.</p>

<p>This lid 11 now opens a hole which is covered with a fine gauze 13 enabling the water to be drained but the solid contents to remain in the container 1.</p>

<p>The attachment will vary depending on how the user intends to carry the portable personal ashtray.</p>

<p>A clamp clip will be used on straps, handles, belts to attach the container 1.</p>

<p>A thin metal spring clip will be used to attach the container 1 to other objects.</p>

1. <p>CLAIM: 1 A portable personal ashtray with an attachment clip, both made

   of moulded plastic with a hinged flip-top lid and flip top action insert lid where cigarette/cigar butts and ash are deposited into a level of water which can be drained via a gauze outlet covered by a flip-top plug.</p>
