Perforating and dividing by fusion.-In a blow-pipe machine for cutting metal of the type in which a tracer follows the lines of a drawing as described in Specification 226,846, the tracer is replaced by rollers bearing on opposite sides of a flexible guiding strip supported from the usual table or board on which the drawing is normally placed or from a member located thereon. The strip 2 is secured in slots in holders 3 which have shanks engaging holes in the table or a board placed thereon, or pins fitting in the board in the manner of a drawing pin, or which may engage undercut slots in the table. Clamping screws may be provided at each side of each holder so as to provide a transverse adjustment. In order to direct the tracer rollers towards or away from the cut, a detachable piece such as 6 may be removed from the holder 7 after the first passage of the rollers and replaced in another position for the second, passage. The part 6 may form part of or co-operate with a length of guiding strip 9. The tracer rollers 10, 11 engage opposite sides of the strip and are geared together at 13, 14, so as to avoid slipping round curves and thus to enable smaller rollers to be used. The roller 10 is driven bv a motor 12 and the roller 11 and gear 14 are hollow and mounted on a fixed spindle 15 carried by a spring-pressed pivoted member 16. In order that the edge of the cut may correspond with the centre line of the strip, the axis of the blow-pipe coincides with that of one of the rollers and the width of cut is made equal to the diameter of the roller plus the thickness of the strip. When cutting thick metals, the width of cut is greater and the guide strip may be offset. The strip may be placed on the board and bent to the form of the drawing.
